Maybe it was growing up where the pavement ended.

Maybe it was feeding animals before school.

Riding in Grandpa’s truck.

Fishing until somebody hollered that supper was ready.

Learning to drive in a pasture.

Working alongside your dad.

Bare feet, creek water, bonfires, busted knuckles, hand-me-downs and knowing half the folks in town.

Or maybe it wasn't one big thing at all.

Maybe it was simply how you were raised.

Around here, we call that Rural By Birth™.

There’s country… and then there’s country. 🤎

Not the kind you put on for the weekend.

The kind you were raised in.

Where work started before the sun came up.

Where somebody waving from a passing truck didn’t mean they knew you — it just meant that’s what you did.

Where getting dirty wasn’t something to complain about.

Where your word mattered.

Where neighbors still helped neighbors.

And where a dirt road could take you somewhere better than any interstate ever could.

That’s the country we built HICK around.

When daylight meant you still had time.

When you stayed outside until the porch lights came on.

Bare feet. Dirt roads. Creek water. Pickup beds. Bikes thrown in the yard. Screen doors slamming. And somebody's mom hollering that supper was ready.

Nobody was checking a phone.

Nobody needed much of a plan.

You just went outside and figured it out.

Maybe that's why those summers still feel different.

Nobody cared how expensive your boots were.

Your truck didn't have to be spotless.

You didn't need the perfect hat.

And nobody was taking pictures of themselves doing chores.

You just lived it.

You got dirty.

You worked.

You helped your neighbors.

You came home tired.

And you did it all again tomorrow.

Somewhere along the way, country became a look.

We still think it's a way of life.

Nobody ever taught us there was a "country way" of doing things.

It was just normal.

You pulled off the road when a funeral procession came by.

You returned something you borrowed with more gas than it had when you got it.

You didn't drive across somebody's field without asking.

If a neighbor needed help, you showed up.

You held the door.

You waved back.

And when somebody gave you their word, you expected it to mean something.

None of it seemed special growing up.

It was just how people were supposed to act.

Funny thing is...

The older we get, the more we realize just how special it actually was.

Sunday mornings hit different out here.

The coffee tastes a little better.

The roads are a little quieter.

The air feels a little lighter.

It's one of the few times all week the world seems to slow down.

No rush.

No deadlines.

Just another reminder that the best things in life have never been the loudest.

Take your time today.

Call your family.

Sit on the porch.

Watch the sunrise.

Someday's you just got turn it all off for a little while.

The world's been loud enough lately!

Go mow the yard.

Take the backroad home.

Jump in the creek.

Float in the pool.

Watch the sunset.

Sit on the porch until the lightning bugs come out.

Plan a girls or guys weekend away from it all.

Trust us...

If you're gone for a couple of hours, the noise will still be there.

Country folks have always understood something...

Hard times don't last forever.

The rain comes.

The drought comes.

Prices go up.

Things get tight.

But somehow...

The garden still grows.

Neighbors still wave.

Coffee still tastes better on the porch.

And tomorrow the sun comes up all over again.

Out here, we've never needed much to be thankful.

We've just learned to keep going. Faith, prayer and less worry and more keep moving.

The dark clouds always pass.
