My next record show at the Crooked Can on Friday, July 31st is dedicated to my dear friend, colleague, and mentor, Bryan, who recently passed. As a way to honor his legacy and help his family during this difficult time, 25% of all of my sales the day of the show will go directly to the family. Recent find that I haven’t gotten around to spinning. I have no preconceived notions of this album, other than I really like Walt Dickerson and Sun Ra by themselves. I’m excited to dig in here!

Revisiting an absolute classic. I listened to a great podcast that highlighted some things I didn’t notice before. So much tasty playing on this record. A for sure must have in the Ray Charles catalog.

The Jackson 5 had the backing of musical production powerhouse Motown Records backing them, and we’re left with fantastic music and great legacies. Unfortunately, the Ponderosa Twins Plus One fell short with minimal publicity and no money from touring. We’re left with one great album and a few nice singles, but nothing else ever followed. Who knows what could’ve become of the Ponderosa Twins Plus One had they been backed by a major label and had the push and publicity with the likes of Motown?
