A good read for all!

Your period could be telling you something you don't expect.

Heavy menstrual bleeding could be the first sign of a bleeding disorder, yet women still wait an average of 14-16 years for a diagnosis.
That's compared to about two years for men.

A new report from the Commission on Global Female Health and Haematology aims to improve care for women.
It highlights the need for earlier diagnosis, more consistent treatment, and stronger research & education on hematological conditions.

Heavy menstrual bleeding was a central issue in the report.
It affects up to one in three women, yet it is frequently dismissed or inadequately treated.

The commission set a key goal to reduce the average time from symptom onset to diagnosis for women and girls with bleeding disorders to less than 24 months by 2035.
The authors note this target is ambitious but achievable if screening recommendations are incorporated into major guidelines and supported by clinician education.

“Improving hematological care for women of all ages represents one of the clearest opportunities to strengthen health outcomes globally,” said lead author Bethany Samuelson Bannow, MD, director of Classical Hematology at Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute. “Our findings underscore a major but addressable gap in women’s health worldwide. The tools already exist, and this paper offers a forward-looking roadmap to apply them more consistently and equitably.”

It's estimated that seven out of 10 deaths in the U.S. are caused by chronic disease, such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer, to name a few. That's why July 10 is designated as Chronic Disease Day to advocate for prevention and early detection of these types of illnesses.

Need to have a screening or help managing a condition? Your primary care provider (P*P) is a good place to start. They can take the first steps in diagnosing an issue or refer you to a specialist for further treatment.

If you're looking for a new P*P, Aultman is here for you! Aultman practices all across the system are accepting new patients. Visit aultman.org/NewDoc or call our new patient hotline at 330-433-1264 to get started!
