I still have a nice selection of wands in my Sister Kait;'s booth # 279, Accents Renaissance and Historical Design at The Kansas City Renaissance Festival. This is the 4th of 7 weekends and the weather looks to be perfect Faire going weather. Come out and see us. It's the 50th anniversary of KCRF and you won't want to miss it! WANDS UP!

Here's a few of the wands that I just finished that I will be bringing to KC with me. There is some Grenadillo, hard, chocolate brown with some even deeper dark chocolate stripes running through it. There's some Sapelle, beautiful grained and colorful. Some cherry, walnut, and purpleheart and then the alder wood I use for most of my wands. You can find them all at The Kansas City Renaissance Festival in my Sister, Kait's booth # 279. It's the 50th anniversary of KCRF and it's going to be one you won't want to miss...WANDS UP!⚡️

Well, the first weekend was a complete wash as far as my class was concerned and, quite honestly, I would have been surprised if anyone actually showed for it. Heat was constantly in the 100's all weekend long and I only made it until 2 myself. But, each day was a tad cooler than the one before it and hopefully that trend will continue. There will be plenty of weekends perfect for getting out to The Kansas City Renaissance Festival where I will be playing...MYSELF! Richard Leonidas Humphrey, The Wand Maker but, please, call me Leonidas. I hope you will come out to see me just being myself, teaching my class (1 & 4 on the Adventure Stage) and bringing my own brand of magic. WANDS UP!⚡️

I inspect every piece of wood I consider for making a wand from. I do that twice. The first time is just to make sure it doesn't have cracks or a knot that have issues that might make it hazardous (flying apart) to lathe. Having a knot does not mean I reject it. It just means it doesn't go all the way through and create a big hole. This piece of walnut has pretty straight grain to it until you get to the butt end. you can see where the knot was on the very end and the burling that comes with knots, like this one, gets kind of squirrely and they are very hard. This one will take a little patience but, I am going to keep the design of the wand simple to show off the "squirrely burling". It should look very striking when I'm done.

Greetings to one and all. I come today to inform the general public that all persons carrying a wand, especially those persons being at or under the age of 11, must attend my upcoming Wand Handling Class in The Children's Realm at The Kansas City Renaissance Festival, every weekend beginning Labor Day (including Monday) through October 18th. Attendance is mandatory (perhaps) and I will be inspecting all wands created on the premises. Times and stage to be announced soon.
Yes, you will need a wand for this class.
