An ode to the privilege for reinvention 🌹
How lucky are we to have beautiful remnants from the past to repurpose for modern day goods & wears!? Rumor has it that cutting up quilts is a no no, I disagree and here’s why…
Often times, I hear folks speak on the family heirloom quilts they have that they wish they could use, but they are torn & tattered due to age and use. Because of the wear & tear, they are scared to damage it further. In my eyes, that wear and tear is a representation of the love and history from our ancestors, so why not restore & reinvent to honor that history?
In these photos, I am wearing a quilt that I found at a local thrift that had wear and tear. In this case, someone’s trash was my treasure and I decided to take her home and give her some TLC. She has been reinvented into a beautiful trench jacket, to keep someone cozy throughout the years ahead.
I am beyond grateful to have a community & customer base that has the ability to see the beauty in my reworks. You’re not just buying my reworks, but a piece of history & I think that is what it’s all about!
