Today’s the day. It’s Graduation Day here in CV which means it’s also my third annual, Life Advice For Grads Who Didn’t Ask For It As If I Know What The Hell I’m Talking About.
This year’s theme is, “Interesting People Do Interesting Things”.
College is the perfect time to hang out with a bunch of weirdos. If high school today is similar to my experience and how it’s portrayed in Euphoria, it can be very cliquey and judgey and not ripe for anyone to be their 100% authentic self. One of the best things about college is that you are forced out of your bubble and are exposed to so many different ways to live one’s life. And the best part is that there are no wrong answers (mostly). You learn that YOUR world isn’t THE world.
Which leads me to my main point, Interesting People Do Interesting Things. Childhood friends are cool and all but the people you meet as a young adult are the ones you won’t feel obligated to invite to your wedding one day. These friends are the ones you get to choose, the ones you share common interests with, the ones who remain well beyond the dorms. They say it’s not what you know but who you know and from my personal experience, that couldn’t be truer. Surround yourself with some characters because you’ll never know what they’ll end up doing later in life and when you may need them. At the very least, they’ll always have some good stories and will help fill out your fantasy football league.
Congrats to the Class of ‘26.
