Found the perfect prom dress? Come in for a fitting appointment! When getting a dress hemmed, each layer is pinned around the bottom at floor length (or shorter), and excess fabric is folded under so you can see what it will look like before it's sewn. This creates the most beautiful hem. Send a message for more details!

Sometimes the best design ideas come from customers! The shoulders were too wide on this dress, and her idea was to add little pleats to the front and back shoulder areas, taking them in quite a bit. So we did this, and now it fits great. The pleats add something extra to the design.
The winter coat she brought in was very boxy, so we added a couple of seams in front. Now it’s got a little shape without being too tight.

This gal went to Kansas City over New Year’s for an event downtown, and I can imagine she got some compliments on her dress. All it needed was a hem, and though you can’t see it in the picture, we lined the inside of the straps with some thin ribbon to make it more comfortable on her shoulders. 🎊

Have you been shopping this holiday season? Chances are good you’ve found something that could benefit from alterations. These cords look comfy, but they were made even better by taking in the waist and hemming them. And, you can’t tell anything’s been done until you try them on. (In this case, the waist “darts” are disguised by the belt loops.)

This dress is such a beautiful color and fabric — dusty rose chiffon. We hemmed it, so it is the same distance to the floor all the way around the skirt. You can pick any length you‘d like. The length doesn’t affect the price — only the number of layers in the skirt, because we sew (and press, and cut) around each layer twice to make a narrow hem. Most of the time, people choose floor length, or about 1/2“ from the floor like this one.

What really helped this dress look its best is taking up the shoulder seams. Often the bodice of the dress is just cut too long for the wearer, and shortening the shoulders and straps helps it rest on the body correctly and provide the support that is built into the dress.

What do you do when you go down a size and your jeans waists are a little loose? Do you start wearing a bulky belt? Buy all new pants? It’s a problem that’s all too familiar to us at Stephanie’s Alterations — we experience these size fluctuations ourselves. The solution is waist darts. When compared to buying new jeans, it’s an economical option. The best part is that they are easily removed, so if you go back up a size, you can let them out again and keep the same pants!

One of our first customers to visit the new location kindly let us take her picture. We took in her faux-suede skirt so the waist was tight enough, and tapered down the side seams. Her dog print shirt went so well with the look!
