Watch the skirt 👀

I’m really into *soft selling*. I want you to purchase in a no-pressure environment.

Sometimes that translates to me not gushing over skirts that deserve gushing. I’m here to correct that 🤓

I wore my Indigo Leaf skirt this week and threw it in the wash, reflecting on how universal it is. How I took it on a 10 day trip and wore it 5x - including canoing in the Dordogne and biking through Bordeaux. The fabric is lightweight but doesn’t hold wrinkles and doesn’t fly up in the wind. It matches everything in my closet, because it’s the color of denim.

It comes with a matching belt that can be used in your hair or on your bag. And it’s the only skirt to come with a matching hanky 🤧 which is the most adorable surprise. 🥰

MrsEmily.com to purchase or make an appointment to come see her in person at my salon.

I accidentally became an expert. A skirt scientist, who’s spent years personally sewing hundreds of skirts before slowly and carefully shifting sewing to the hands of 5 amazing sewists in India.

I have so many of these videos. Pajama Emily, making a skirt. It’s slow work that takes concentration and attention to detail.

As a friend told me last week: I think it is true of many of us who have honed expertise over years, but then forget to value it: “I offer to adjust the elastic ... saying it’s easy (after all I know how to do it, isn’t that the same thing?)”

New bloggy-blog with great quotes such as

“Food doesn’t come from windows”

and maybe more to the point:

“I am a good designer, unfamiliar with what a good designer looks like, because I’ve purchased clothes from bad designers my whole life. As have you. Old Navy doesn’t care if we look good, they care if we buy.”

If you've ever wondered about my design process, here's a great lil look inside. I wrote this stream of consciousness, then plugged it into ChatGPT. The response gave me further insight into my role and its strengths and challenges. Enjoy: What I wrote: I have only ever seen recalls of product in on...

I often make pieces that match my skirts, but then I don’t do a great job of describing how I wear them. Some of that is intentional, I suppose, because my best progress in personal style and design, has come by way of playing. I take scarves, fabric, what I have in my closet, and I just wrap and twist and tuck and play. And I want you to do the same.

This head wrap and the green are the same fabric type and have a great grip that holds it in place all day.

My manufacturing partners matter more to me than my manufacturing product. That’s been the hardest part - when the learning curve impacts people. 😥

And the other side of this coin? Fantastic skirts, built with love and integrity.

Do you see it? The many seasons, some short and some long, of “not feeling like herself”, and the perseverance, the evolution, the WINS.

How deep our relationship is with clothing. It is how we reclaim who we are after our body, mind, or circumstances change so drastically we don’t recognize ourselves.

Fashion is an industry that thrives when we hurt. That underserves us, while reminding us we are outside the beauty standard, and don’t have resources to do much about it.

Special thanks to Glam to Glory Photography for these captures of Columbia. 🥰
