December Band of the Month * Celebrate Metallica’s return with In The Groove! * All men’s Metallica tee shirts $15.95! Ladies’ long sleeve combed cotton Metallica shirt $19.95! (limited to stock on hand)

With the release of Hardwired... to Self-Destruct, their tenth album and their first since 2008, the band Metallica fulfilled the wishes of fans the world over. Metallica formed in 1981 and is one of the “big four” in thrash metal music, along with Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Although they are tagged in the genres of heavy metal and thrash metal, I believe that Metallica is a genre unto themselves; no one can match the harmonies and fast tempo of the band’s early releases. As Metallica evolved over time, the band’s sound changed. They adopted a more mainstream approach including trading their aggressive, fast tempos for expanded music and expressive range, which paid off with further commercial success. The album Death Magnetic was a return to the band’s thrash roots and Hardwired… to Self-Destruct proves that Metallica is still a force to be reckoned with. Metallica has become one of the most influential heavy metal bands worldwide and one of the most commercially successful bands of all time. They are one of my personal favorite bands and I look forward to seeing their live show, hopefully next year.

AC/DC * IN THE GROOVE’S BAND OF THE MONTH * 20% OFF ALL AC/DC TEES
AC/DC, the iconic Australian rock band formed by Malcolm and Angus Young, have been through some changes since they first came on the scene in 1973. By 1975, when their first album High Voltage was released, Malcolm and Angus were the only original members left in the band. Soon after recording the album Highway to Hell, lead singer Bon Scott died, which almost led to the collapse of the band. On encouragement from Scott’s family they stayed together and tapped Brian Johnson as replacement lead vocalist. Later that year Back in Black was released as a tribute to Bon Scott and eventually became their all-time best-seller. From here, the band’s legacy was confirmed. For Those About to Rock We Salute You was their first album to reach number one in the US. It was followed by The Razors Edge, Ballbreaker, Stiff Upper Lip, and Black Ice. Malcolm Young retired in 2014 and in 2016 Brian Johnson was advised to stop touring due to worsening hearing loss. He was replaced by Axl Rose on the final leg of what appears to be AC/DC’s final tour.
