Something I don't talk about enough is the work that I do in the background to stand up for small businesses.
I have a member of a committee through my friends at Shopify that has skyrocketed my involvement with so many opportunities over the last few years.
I wanted to share because I think its important that its not just lip service to "shop small" or "support USA" for me. I'm also putting my cowboy boots on the ground to advocate for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and especially rural area growth, affordability to start and maintain local businesses, tax reductions, tarrif and trade fairness, and many many other issues.
I have been to DC on behalf of JH twice now, and am headed back tomorrow. I've met with other business owners from Iowa in the District advocating for women entrepreneurs, and I've been to the White House to voice for and represent e-commerce brands, and now I return to DC this week for a new opportunity as a District Delegate for National Retail Federation - America's Retail Champion program. I was nominated without knowing and it has just been the sweetest surprise and I am so thankful that JH has been given this amazing chance to continue growing in this space.
I never feel like I'm doing enough to advocate for small businesses... but when the NRF called to let me know I was nominated, I made a list of the various articles, letters to the editor, women in business podcasts + radio spots, news outlets, meetings with Senators, etc.. I filled 2 pages. I guess I just don't think about it as a list to acquire or resume to build.. I think of it as doing my part.. and putting some energy and grit behind the words "Shop Small."
I'm absolutely humbled and so excited for another opportunity to meet with the head of the small businesses committee Sen. Ernst, talk and share with other small business owners across the nation, and share my thoughts with Senators, House Representatives, and other notables during my time in DC this week.
If I can do it as a single Mom, farm owner, with a business (and another in the works) and a whole side-hobby showing horses. So can you.
You never know how far you can go, unless you run. - Penny Chenery Tweety, owner of Secretariat.
No matter which side of the aisle, we can all agree that supporting USA made and Local businesses will never go out of style, and always be worth protecting and keeping the American dream alive. πΊπ²
Thank you for your support and kindness as this week may be a bit spotty with answering messages as my schedule is packed for the next few days!
