I’d like to take a moment to reflect on a wonderful learning experience I had this past February. I traveled to Durham, NC for a one-on-one full weekend workshop with Kellen from .goods and built this GORGEOUS bag. I think it’s a smart reminder that no matter what skill level you are currently at you always have room for improvement. Some snicker at the prices charged for training, but I can promise you I learned lessons, tips, and methods that I will use for the rest of my career in leatherworking. For that reason, I’d say if you are financially able continued education is a MUST. There is no better investment than investing in yourself.

Hey y’all! I don’t think I’ve ever made an introduction or meet the maker post so here it goes.

My name is Marcus and I live in a suburb of Charleston, SC called Hanahan. I am originally from a small town in eastern Oklahoma named Catoosa that is a suburb of Tulsa. Fun fact, I grew up right across the street from the Blue Whale that is famous on Route 66.

I moved around a lot from being in the US Navy. I was recently medically retired after a ten year career on submarines. I lived in Honolulu where I was attached to my submarine the USS Bremerton. After 2 deployments to Southeast Asia and 3 years in Hawaii we took her to Bremerton, WA (a 40 minute ferry ride across the Puget Sound from Seattle) for decommissioning. I lived there for a year before moving back to Charleston to teach at the nuclear propulsion school. I have been in Charleston for almost 4 years this time and close to 6 years in total.

I have a nearly four year old golden retriever named Copper that always keeps me on my toes. 😂 I like to cook and golf when not leather working. In addition to the constant projects of living in a 60 year old house, I have a 1985 diesel Mercedes that I am currently restoring to be a daily driver. I am a student at College of Charleston in the school of business completing my undergrad in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. I’ll take a deeper dive into the what and why of the business side of things soon, but wanted to give everyone a little back story into who’s behind the products!
