Time to water the bacon seeds!!! In this heat it’s super important to water them well so they don’t get all wilty. We want good bacon crops.

I’ll be opening my website Sunday morning through Sunday night for online orders, with local delivery and pickup available Monday. You’ll be able to order Spring Mix, Lettuce Mix, Spinach, Cooking Greens, and Radishes.

A lot of people mentioned they had other events going on and couldn’t make it to the market, and I completely understand. You can still get your favorite greens delivered straight to your door or packed and ready for pickup Monday at the Raw Juice Market.

We popped over to the new store yesterday to check it out- and Ahren was thrilled to find edible flowers, “these are perfect! Now I can stop trying to eat YOUR plants!” Perfect.

I got to spend a little time over at Three Notch Nurseries this morning picking up a serviceberry, elderberry, some more bee balm, purple cone flower and blazing star for the bees 💜 it’s always such a wonderful time going there, it’s a little magic garden in the chaos and the owner is just such a wonderful, kind human. It’s such a joy doing business with her I’m happy to drive so far out of my way to go to her.

In today’s episode of “How it’s Made” part one of birds nest orb, with one of our farm workers, Brandon. Brandon’s work ethic is sub optimal, needing a LOT of validation and breaks to finish a task, and he demands a high wage in this economy.

Yesterday was shearing day and it was all hands on deck. Of course I forgot to get photos on my own farm but that’s typical. We started here at 8:30AM. Naveed, a friend and pro shearer from was here bright and early. Savannah from Chivari Homestead and Dot of Belare met us here as well for more hands. We got everyone done in less than 2 hours, took a short break and moved onto Tiombe’s Farm, then up to Belare where Naveed took the time to give us a demonstration for getting a sheep into position since Savannah is interested in shearing. I wish I got a picture of her wrangling that Ram! Days like this where we come together, get s**t done and learn are the best. Today I am incredibly sore but it was a lovely day spend being productive with friends and we are all so many bags of wool richer.

This is really fantastic, what a great option.

Farming is a stressful occupation. So much of it is beyond our control, and this year has been extra. Mother Nature has really been throwing the blows lately.

The early season warm weather had everything blooming and then the frost came back... i'd estimate it took over half of our grape crop for the year, a solid amount of our asparagus, and I still can't tell if the blackberries and blueberries are going to rebound.

As if that wasn't enough, the drought has made it so that hardly anything is growing. Our garlic is struggling, and we haven't even bothered putting in any spring/ summer seeds yet. We recently had to notify all of our hay customers that we just might not have it this year, which will impact livestock/meat prices for an entire year. The hits just keep coming. At least for now we have plenty of wool/yarn and baked goods for income-- a benefits of diversifying your offerings.

All this to say, please support all of your local farmers. We're a resilient bunch, but it's gonna take a village to keep us all going this season :)

These are puppies we went to help “test.” These are NOT LGD’s but other working/ sport dogs. The boy with the lime collar is a particular favorite of mine and was attentive to Rose without verbal input.
