Here’s the nutcracker that started it all! This was the first one I made - it was my Christmas gift to my mother last year. She’s really into birding and I had so much fun joining that theme with her love of Christmas nutcrackers! I love seeing something I made alongside the other nutcrackers in her collection. Today I’m shining extra light on my nutcracker that I shipped off to his new home yesterday! This was the second one I’ve made and it’s based on the game of Mahjong. I’m working on making another to add to my Etsy shop 🎉 along with some more nutcrackers with different themes. These are truly a lot of fun to make - the second to final slide is what I start with when I make them. For small businesses, Christmas is really on the way! 🎄🌟

Today was a really big day for Wind Racer Designs! I got my first sale on Etsy (with art I haven’t even posted yet!) 🎉🎉🎉 I had so much fun packaging it up and personalizing it to go to its new home! It’s so cool to think that my art will be places that I’ve never even been before myself.

Swipe to see what sold! People are already getting their holiday shopping done 🎄 which my custom nutcrackers are perfect for! I’ll make a more detailed post dedicated to those soon, but they are currently in my Etsy shop. Each one is one of a kind and painstakingly crafted by me (with love of course). Today is a mini spin off of my birth flower collection! I did this blue delphinium (my birth flower) on a pink background on a piece of watercolor paper. I didn’t do it on a canvas because I needed a specific shape - I needed it to work on a phone case. Although I wasn’t crazy about the case’s quality when I got it (the picture, despite looking crisp on the websites’ mockups, is quite fuzzy compared to the original painting and the hole to toggle the ringer is so small that it’s hard to switch on/off) it’s really cool carrying a piece of my art with me everyday! Plus now I know that I need to keep looking for a different company/supplier if I want to offer phone cases. I wouldn’t ever feel comfortable selling something that wasn’t of a quality I approve myself!

“A Mother’s Love” - acrylic on canvas, 8” x 10”

Who doesn’t love a good piece of chicken art? I actually painted this one with a prompt of “transformation” in mind. The obvious transformation being an egg turning into a whole grown chicken, but the less obvious is the transformation of motherhood. Lots of the changes of becoming a mother aren’t visible on the surface - some of the most intense changes can be found on the mental side of things. I know that although I’m still me, after becoming a mother myself I’m a whole new person in addition to my old self.

There’s just something so peaceful about an open field 🌾💚

I painted this one a few days ago from a photo I took on the Wagon Loop trail at the Anne Springs Close Greenway. I get so excited when I see hay bales - I used to have so much fun jumping over rows and rows of them as a kid 💛

“Three Sisters”

7”x 5”x 0.5”

I painted this based on a photograph I took of some pansies blooming in late winter/early spring last year. The three flowers made me think of my mother and her two close sisters - hence the piece’s name. I love how the flowers are blooming with beauty and grace despite harsher conditions and cold temperatures. Their admirable resilience reminded me of my mother and aunts!
