There are restaurants with great food. There are bars with amazing cocktails. And then there are places that somehow become part of your story. For us, that's Vondra Social House in Springfield, IL.
It all started with a Sunday brunch back in April. C**ton, our friend Alexa, and I (Madison) decided to check it out, and we were hooked from the moment we walked in. The very next week, C**t + I were back with another friend Katy. This time to experience the cocktails and shareable plates. We left that night already talking about when we'd come back.
Since then ... C**t + I have honestly lost count.
We've gone two nights in a row because there were still dishes we wanted to try. We've spent evenings lingering over cocktails because the atmosphere makes it hard to leave. The food is incredible, the drinks are even better, but neither of those are why we keep coming back. We come back because of the people.
Our server Kaitlyn, made us feel like old friends from the very beginning. After we went two nights in a row she joked, "See you tomorrow for round three." The funny part? We actually considered it. Now they know us by name, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Last night, I was doing what I always do, taking pictures because I never want to forget the little moments. I showed our servers/friends working a photo I'd taken, and before I knew it they had gone to grab Sierra, the owner.
Sierra pulled up a chair, and we talked. About dreams. About taking chances. About where life has led us. About the joy and challenges of building something you're proud of. It got me thinking. When was the last time you sat down and had a genuine conversation with the owner of a chain restaurant? Or a big box store? Probably never. But that's the beauty of small business.
As the manager of The Coop, and as someone who owns a small business inside our walls here, I know first hand that what people remember isn't just what they bought or what they ate. It's how someone made them feel. Vondra Social House has mastered that.
So for this Small Business Saturday, we're celebrating a business that reminds us what community really looks like. A place that serves incredible food and cocktails, yes! But more importantly, serves connection.
Thank you to the entire Vondra team for creating a place that keeps filling our cups, one visit at a time. If you haven't been yet, let this be your sign. Don't want to go alone? C**t + I would love to join you! β€οΈβ€ β€
