Thank you for taking the time to interview me!
"My name is Latanza Lindsey and my store is 119 Elizabeth. 'Elizabeth' is my grandmother's name and she used to love to shop. She passed away in 2019, her birthday was April 19, she lived on 119 Roosevelt Street, and both of my children were born on the ninth of the month. That's how I got my name.
Going shopping with my grandmother was always an adventure. She loved to go to yard sales, so every Saturday, we would go to yard sales and after we finished shopping, we'd go to the Waffle House and eat. She had exquisite taste and she loved to shop. She would walk the strip mall all day long, shopping. Everybody knew her in the town. When I came to Cheraw after she passed away, I just wanted to do something in her honor and every day I come in, I'm reminded of her.
It wasn't scary opening a business because I knew it's what I wanted to do, but I had to wait on the Lord. He did this, not me, so I walked out on faith and I just knew that if He opened the door, nobody could close it.
I carry mostly clothing and shoes, but carry a little bit of everything. I just want people to shop and find something that they like. Mostly, I have a lot of one-and-done items, unique things. I want people to have a unique style.
The other businesses have been very supportive. They send people over here, and we send customers to each other. If I don't have something, I tell them to go to another shop. We support each other, share each other's stuff on Facebook. We're like a little family.
Cheraw's a good place to raise a family — less crime than the big city, not as fast, not being exposed to so much out there in the world. Small community, godly people, things children need. I love it because it's slow. I've been-there-done-that with the fast life. The people are wonderful. Everyone has been friendly and very open. I love it here in Cheraw."
