Memories of 13 years . Day 5

Early in 2023, we knew our lease was ending, and we had a decision to make: stay where we were or take the next step.

When Tommy found this empty storefront, I looked through the windows and instantly saw everything it could become. It was a blank canvas to most, but I could already see Tris Chic’s next chapter.

I’ll be honest. I was terrified.

I’ve never taken a business loan. Every step over the last 13 years has been built slowly, organically, and with faith. It may have taken longer, but it allowed me to grow into the business owner God was preparing me to be. I took my savings and we got to work.

As we built this space, I also faced one of the hardest seasons of my life. There were voices literally telling me I wasn’t worthy and that there were “better boutiques.” For a while, those words almost broke me.

But when God is preparing you for more, opposition often gets louder. He placed the right people in my life to remind me who I was, and because of them, I kept going.

Three years later, this building has become so much more than a boutique. It’s become a place where women gather, friendships begin, and our community is loved well allowing us to give back to our schools and special causes.

Looking back this week has reminded me not to get so focused on where I’m going that I forget how far God has already brought me.

A year ago I was fighting the hardest health battle of my life. Quitting would have been easier, but that’s not how I was built.

Yesterday I told my son, “Be bold.” Speak up. Trust God. Growth has never happened for me inside my comfort zone.

This storefront was never the finish line. It was preparing us for something even bigger. And as grateful as I am for these four walls… they were never the end of the story.

Thirteen years. Day 4 memories. 🤍

This memory takes us back to 2022, about a year before we signed the lease on the storefront we’re in today.

After several years in our little 650-square-foot space, we remodeled to create a little more room. We were growing, and I was doing everything I could to make that little boutique work.

Around that time, we hosted a Galentine’s event I’ll never forget.

We had just finished a live sale when I opened the doors to a line of women waiting outside. It should have felt like one of my biggest victories, but instead I was overwhelmed. I couldn’t pull inventory fast enough, couldn’t keep up, and remember sitting on the floor in tears wondering how I was ever going to do both.

That season changed me.

There was a growing demand for me to stay behind the camera doing live sales, but there was also something growing inside those four walls: a community. Community who was showing up for me in this town, in this sweet space. Community had become my heart. I yearned for more than being behind a camera. I lived for the genuine connections, moments, conversations that were personal and healing. It was becoming more than just shopping. Not everyone understood that, and that’s okay. I’ve learned not everyone is meant to walk with you into every season. Some people are part of one chapter while God is already writing the next.

God was showing me that what had gotten me here wasn’t necessarily what would take me where He was leading me next.

I’ll never forget who He sent. My sweet friend Kat and my husband’s Aunt Beth found me on the floor, picked me up, held me while I cried, encouraged me, and helped me through what felt like failure in the middle of success.

This business has given me so much more than growth. It has given me people who became family. Some of my greatest supporters started as complete strangers.

Looking back, that “successful failure” wasn’t a failure at all. It was God preparing my heart for the next yes.

Sometimes the biggest growing pains aren’t about outgrowing a building. They’re about having the courage to follow where God is leading.

Happy Tuesday! It’s officially anniversary week, and we couldn’t be more excited. The boutique is already filled with so many beautiful new arrivals, and we can’t wait to add even more before Saturday’s celebration!

We may question, wrestle, or even feel frustrated, but God is growing something in us through every season. When we trust Him, our faith is strengthened, and often the beauty on the other side makes us understand why He allowed us to walk through it.
