A little dreidel whimsy! 🕎✨

October 7th, 2023. I remember exactly where I was and I’m sure you do too

It was the night before the Chicago Marathon; my first ever marathon. I had been training for months, and then I opened Instagram and saw a few posts about what was happening. My stomach dropped.

I remember thinking, I cannot keep scrolling. I had worked so hard to get to this point, and I knew that if I stayed on Instagram that night, I wasn’t going to sleep. And if I didn’t sleep, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get up the next morning and finish the marathon. So I closed the app and went to sleep.

I woke up the next morning and ran a marathon while the world was changing.

Three years later, I still think about that day a lot. How strange it was to be doing something I had worked toward for months while knowing that something so horrific was happening, and how, in so many ways, our lives have changed since then.

I almost didn’t want to post something as cheerful as Hanukkah designs today. It felt strange to be talking about sparkles and dreidels and silly little Jewish sweatshirts on a day that has changed so much for us.

But Jewish joy is a big part of why I make these things in the first place.

I love being Jewish. I love campy Jewish joy. I love seeing the smiles on peoples faces when they find my crafted by Kadi table out in the wild. I love the excitement when Bubbe finds the perfect onesie for her grandkids.

I don’t think joy erases grief. And I don’t think we have to choose between remembering and celebrating, between mourning and creating something beautiful.

Even when things feel heavy, I want to keep making room for Jewish joy.

So here’s some of the Hanukkah joy I’ve been working on. 💙🕎✨

May we remember and may we keep bringing Jewish joy into the world!

100 people. 100 tie dye shirts. 1 campy wedding. 🌈⛺️

If you know me, you probably knew this was coming: I HAD to make tie dye shirts for our wedding weekend.

There were many, many hours of folding, dyeing, rinsing, washing, drying, screen printing, packing… and then finally getting to see 100 people running around Camp Wildflower and Wintergreen in shirts I made was VERY worth it.

Honestly, this might be my favorite kind of tie dye: the kind that brings a whole group together.

Weddings, camps, school groups, family reunions, bachelorettes, team building… if you can get a group of people together, I can probably find a way to get tie dye involved. 😉
