The thing about butterflies, and nature in
general, is that they look so, well, natural in their
habitat. There is a a moment of stillness that makes
you believe, just for a moment, that time has stopped.
The butterfly lands, the shutter clicks, and then you
blink. The butterfly is gone, and you’re staring at a
lovely red-and-orange cluster of flowers as though
nothing happened. For a brief moment, you wonder if it did, but then your check your camera and there sits
the gorgeous, tough-looking winged insect, in all of her glory. You cap the camera and walk on.

This butterfly shot was taken in Bali in 2015 at the
butterfly sanctuary in Gianyar.
