I was eight or nine years old, and my teachers told my parents that I was incorrigible. Later on we would find out that I was partially colorblind and had learning disabilities and that I wasn’t being “a difficult kid“ I was just a kid with disabilities. Camp was HELL. My father came to pick me up at the end of the season and because he was a doctor. His only day off was Wednesday and camp ended on Thursday. My father and the commander met ,he told my father that if there was anything my father could do to keep me out of the United States military that it would be good for the country and it would be good for me and that I did not belong in a military world. Of course I went on to prove my teachers and the commander wrong . I wasn’t a difficult kid obviously I was brighter than the average squirrel and what a life I’ve had with all of you some 60 years after this picture was taken and they’re right
Come the 1970’s I was protesting the Vietnam war the book we’re working on actually has some of the pictures I took during the protest in the loop and it was an experience. I will never forget, would never put my children through and my parents screwed up. I forgave them long ago.
