The prerequisite for becoming the mayor of Chicago is to say you won’t increase property taxes, but then after being elected, increase property taxes. In the last 10 years they have increased 125%. We have the second highest in the nation, without any of the benefits one would expect. I can’t send my kid to our neighborhood school, I obviously can’t get the city to take responsibility for what they did to our sewer line. Police don’t police. Roads dont get fixed….the list goes on.
If you live in chicago (even if you’re a renter…. This will obviously affect you too) contact your alderman and tell them how you feel. I’ll post a link in my stories to help find your alderman’s email and a template email for you to send.
This increase comes on the heels of passing an anti gentrification ordinance. What do they think is going to happen when taxes go up? Generations of residents will be priced out and forced to leave their neighborhoods. It’s been happening for years. What are you thinking ?
