Upcycling is one of my favorite things to do. I find it challenging to make the piece work with what you have & rewarding when it’s finished. I recently took a skirt that was too long & too big & turned it into this matching set.
1st I had to make the skirt fit in the waist, which I created a whole tutorial about. Then I had to decide where to hem it so I could fit the VersaStyle tank top pattern in at the hem. This was tricky. I ended up with a seam at center front but you can’t tell with the busy print. The top also ended up an inch shorter but it works with the high waisted skirt.
I wore the outfit out once & decided the skirt was too short. I luckily kept the scraps from the top & I was able to add a 3 inch band at the bottom of the skirt. Woohoo 🥳 Swipe to see the most candid photo ever, a reel on making the waist fit, the wedding I wore it to & cutting it out. This was a long project but totally worth it. When I thrifted the skirt I had no idea it would turn into this outfit. I just loved the funky rayon print. Plus it has pockets!!!
If you want to venture into upcycling be sure to check out my sewing classes & tailoring classes. I will be running another upcycling class in January.
