Day 4 of Chicago Climate Week!
Working with these textiles from Motif Handmade opened up a world of possibilities—for me, for the artisans whose craftsmanship deserves to be celebrated, and for a future where clothing is designed with intention and made to be loved for years to come.
Before sketching a single garment, I spent time with the fabric itself—touching it, draping it, pinning it, and watching how it moved. The more I learned about the materials and the artisans behind them, the more I realized the design wasn't about imposing an idea. It was about listening to what the fabric could become.
That shift changed everything. Designing for resiliency begins long before the first pattern is made.
Join me tomorrow as we explore why construction matters—and how the details you don't always see often determine how beautifully a garment will wear, move, and last.
