"I should have just come here first."

I hear versions of that all the time after someone has spent weeks ordering dress after dress online, only to end up stressed, discouraged, and still needing something to wear.

The funny part is that I almost didn't post this video because the camera angles are absolutely doing me zero favors. 😂😭

But then I thought... this is actually what it's like to talk to me in real life.

Random side quests. A completely unnecessary discussion about my hairbrush. A rant about formalwear. And eventually, somewhere around minute four, I finally get to the point.

So I'm leaving all 4 minutes and 10 seconds in.

Because sometimes the messy, rambling version is the most honest version.

And because that customer's comment meant more to me than they probably realized. ❤️

For a moment, it reminded me that what we do here still matters.

We don't just sell dresses. We help people find themselves in them.

As I was dressing this mannequin, I realized how much of my summer style was shaped by 80s and 90s movies that took place in the 60s and 70s.

Think My Girl, Now and Then, Dirty Dancing.

These movies dealt with hard topics—death, divorce, abortion...

I emotionally connected with these characters while simultaneously trying to emulate their easy, breezy summer style.

From cutoff shorts and leather sandals to flouncy summer tops, floral accessories, and, of course, a carpet bag to hold all the things.

Live on the Lawn is almost here, and this is exactly what we’re reaching for when we don’t want to overthink it but still want to feel good the entire night.
