Thanks to everyone who came out to support this week and to everyone we saw today for Slice of Chico! With your support over the week we were able to donate $425 to the North Valley Community Foundation's Chico Library Shooting Support Funds.
In our society it can be hard to realize how our individual contributions stack up. But our shop wouldn't exist without your support. Same as the library. The post office. Or any other service you frequent. We truly do make a difference with where and how we decide to show up. Not just with our dollars, but our engagement. This week I've chatted with folks about new loves in the face of widowdom, retirement and finding identity outside of work, celebrating almost 3 years of their partner being in full remission, wearing their first dress in over 20 years, etc, etc. Not only do I feel grateful to hear the stories and lives of my customers, I feel lucky to share in the highs and lows of my community.
This year has thrown some unique challenges. Folks are struggling, spending differently. And I don't blame them--so am I. But I want places like cottonparty, or The Bookstore, or Raw Bar to survive. I don't want a monoculture of big box retail to consume us. I want unique, independent businesses run by my fellow community members to thrive and not struggle to survive. I don't want to line the pockets of the ultra-wealthy, who don't know the people who build up our town. I want every non-profit to have the support of the small businesses who are the backbone of our community.
For those who regularly support, I know I am preaching to the choir. For those who need a reminder, your neighbors need your support. And we hope to see you soon. 💙
