💙 Community Update on Coach Randy McKinnie & Family 💙

I wanted to give everyone a little update on Coach Randy McKinnie and his family.

Randy stopped by last week to cut our grass, and I was so thankful I got to check in on him and give him a big hug. ❤️ As you can imagine, this has been an incredibly difficult situation for their family.

They’re currently staying with family and in a hotel while they wait for the insurance company, which is expected to come out this week. Losing your home is overwhelming enough, but having it happen right before the start of a new school year makes everything even harder. Both Randy and his wife work for the Washington County School District, so they’re trying to prepare for school while also navigating the loss of nearly everything they owned.

Once things settle down a bit, Randy’s wife will be stopping by our Ruby Idol warehouse to pick out some clothing for herself. It’s a small way we’re hoping to help lighten the load during such a difficult season.

One thing that made me smile… I finally gave Randy my blue fedora. 😄 He’s had his eye on that hat for quite a while, and I figured if anyone deserved it right now, it was him. Seeing him grin while putting it on was good for my heart.

I also want to say thank you to everyone who has prayed, donated, shared posts, and reached out to support this family. Your kindness is making a difference, even if you don’t always get to see it.

Please continue to keep Randy, his wife, and their family in your prayers as they begin the long road of rebuilding their lives.

💗 The Ruby Idol family is sending lots of love and prayers to Coach Randy McKinnie and his family. 💗

Many of you know Randy as a Chipley High School Football RB Coach, Assistant Basketball Coach, PE teacher at Roulhac Middle School, and coach for RMS Basketball and Baseball. Last night, his family experienced the unimaginable when their home was destroyed by a fire.

If you’ve ever met Randy, you know he has a heart for serving others. Now it’s our turn to show up for him.

One of my favorite memories was convincing Coach Randy to model one of our Ruby Idol shirts—and as you can see, he absolutely owned it! 💕 His smile, personality, and willingness to have fun made it one of my favorite photo shoots. He ended up keeping my pink hat-

As Coach Buchanan shared, the family lost nearly everything, including the school supplies and clothes they had already purchased for the upcoming school year. More information on how our community can help is expected soon, and we’ll gladly share it as it becomes available.

This honestly started as me making ridiculous vintage science graphics for my end-of-year teacher paperwork… and now I’m low-key thinking Ruby Idol needs to turn them into graphic tees. 😂🧪🌱
As a middle school science teacher AND boutique owner, this feels way too on brand for me not to do it. Between the classroom plant experiments, the tomato obsession, coffee-fueled lesson planning, and chaotic science energy… these designs kind of became my personality. 🤣🍅
I’m seriously considering creating a small collection of fun vintage-inspired teacher/science graphic tees for next school year. Think:
✨ Retro science vibes
✨ Plant lab chaos
✨ Funny teacher sayings
✨ Vintage classroom aesthetic
✨ “Science is My Jam” energy

Ran into Tractor Supply for “just one thing” and somehow left thinking I needed chickens, plants, and a utility trailer. 😅
