Nurses don’t just handle the storm;
we become the anchor for everyone else inside it. ⚓❤️ When you feel tired, remember why you started. You are stronger than any tough shift! 🙌💼

Before You Call Me "Just a Nurse" Again

Before you say,
“You’re just a nurse”
Sit with me.
Not in a lecture hall.
Not on a podium.
But beside a dying man’s bed
At 3:17 a.m.

Watch me carry grief like second skin.
Hold space for a mother breaking apart.
Translate medical fear into quiet reassurance.
Administer medicine with one hand,
And hope with the other.

Listen
To the things I hear in silence.
To the way I answer pain with presence.
To the unspoken prayers I whisper
Between code blues and charted tasks.

See how I comfort strangers
As if they were my family—
Because, for one shift,
They are.

See how I whisper strength into the hollow of fear,
How I protect dignity in its final moments,
How I show up,
Even when my soul is breaking.

Watch how I stay
Long after my shift has ended,
Because no one should die alone.
Because sometimes the goodbye
Is more important than the next assignment.

You’ll see
That I don’t just give injections,
I give myself.
That I don’t just clean wounds,
I carry them.

That I’m not just writing reports,
I’m archiving heartbreak and hope
On sterile pages no one will ever truly read.

Then,
And only then
Try to say it.
Try to reduce all of this
To four small words:
“Just a nurse.”

I dare you.

Nursing is not just a career; it’s a calling. It’s being the voice for the silent, the strength for the weak, and the comfort for the hurting. 🤍
