I stumbled upon the opportunity of making memory bears when I lost my mom. I had all of her clothes and thought originally I would make a quilt as a keepsake. The problem was there just wasn't enough clothes to make a quilt for everyone I wanted to share a keepsake of mom with. What I did find was that I could use her clothes to make memory bears for those of us who wanted such a treasure. I have

since made bears out of many lost loved one's clothes. I have also used children's sleepers or blankets to make a lasting reminder of when our kids were oh so small. Over the past several months I have expanded my creations to include t-shirt quilts, photo quilts, Christmas ornaments, and doll clothes. Many of us have favorite clothes or blankets tucked away... baby/kids clothes, sports jerseys, team shirts, clothes from loved ones etc. Transform and preserve these items by turning them into a handmade, custom creation. Lots of new creations are in the works!

Frog Follies is this weekend. Throwing back to this Frog Follies quilt made by Jean Attebery. It was so perfectly pieced and fun to quilt. The result was a stunning finished product!

If you have tshirts in the closet that don't fit anymore or you're not ready to permanently part with them, a tshirt quilt is a treasured way to put them together in a keepsake.

Dogs can sure be hard on quilts! This grandmother's flower garden is the quilt my grandma made us for our wedding in 1993. It gained a hole from a young puppy's zealous nature and sharp teeth. I am super happy with the repair work. This quilt is good to go for years to come!

Edited to add: Grma used a hexagon template made from a cereal box, traced each hexie onto fabric then hand cut them. It was a process for sure.

The more years I spend creating quilts, the more I realize how important it is to document the quilt's story for generations to come. I have so many of my grandma's quilts I wish I had a background on. This quilt made from my mom, grandma and Aunt Neva's clothes was the first one I wanted labeled. Ava is home, hooked up and we are loading a quilt tonight! If anyone has been thinking of buying a longarm, I highly recommend a Handi-Quilter from The Fabric Patch in Pana. Their service is top-notch. I have been working with them for 10 years now and am so thankful for them. Handi-Quilter machines are affordable (by longarm standards lol) and are reliable workhorses. It has been a back to school week for this area. For the first time in 27 years this momma is not sending a kid to their first day. Instead I have spent time repairing a teacher's quilt.

When repairing a quilt, it is sometimes hard to find comparable fabric to use for the fix. But you can get something close enough to be able to use or display the quilt again.

It's been a slower summer than normal around Custom Creations. Partly because I have been playing with grandbabies and partly because Ava has been waiting her turn at the spa. Today's the day, she's on her way!

Took some time off to welcome new grandbaby (he's so precious!) complete a teaching gig at MO Star (what fun!), and help with quilt show for guild (such a talented group!).
