It was known in indoor soccer as the flagship franchise. The showcase. The Cadillac. The model." That's how the Plain Dealer opened on July 23, 1988, the morning after Bert Wolstein folded the Cleveland Force.

Ten seasons at the Richfield Coliseum. Crowds north of 12,000 when the Cavs couldn't buy one. A Darth Vader mascot that got them sued by Lucasfilm, then licensed by George Lucas himself. A run to the 1988 MISL championship series that ended in a sweep by San Diego. And then, at a hastily called press conference, it was over. Not because nobody came, but because the owner was done fighting the league's other owners and the players' union.

The legend of Gomer Hodge lives on!

Gomer Hodge was a baseball lifer and a Cleveland baseball legend for a season, but his memory no doubt lives on and he remains a beloved member of the franchise's history.
