If you're like me, you know the heartbreak of a loved one and the brokenness it brings to children. When my grandfather passed away, it hit me hard as we had a close, strong bond, and his passing was unexpected. My 6yo son was with me through it all and after the realization and understanding that Grandpa wasn't going to be here anymore, I searched for a way to comfort him and let him know that Grandpa is still with us in spirit.
I had a bear pattern in my sewing drawer and sat down to design a photo collage of all the great memories my son and grandpa had together. I couldn't wait to get this project started, not knowing the impact it would have on me until I put in the last stuffing and closed up the seam... It was like Grandpa was there again as I burst into tears and the emotions ran through me. I presented it to my son and he's slept with "him" every night since.
