I had a customer that came into the shop looking for one of his childhood toys... Stompers!! I just so happened to have some at the shop that day and he eneded up buying a large grouping. I told him that I had more in "storage" and that I would include them in my "What's New Wednesday's" reel so he would know I had found some more. Well... I hadn't found any at home but ended up sourcing a really rare Stomper and in pristine condition. When he came in last week, we agreed on a deal.. that he quickly jumped on. He said he would need to wait til payday which was this past Friday... but would be in on Saturday to pay and pick it up. He was so excited and his wife remarked that he would be excited all week waiting.

Well... insert plot twist come Thursday morning when his wife came in and said she wanted to purchase the Stomper for her son who was planning on giving it to his dad for Father's Day... It gets better... The guy then comes in on Friday after work... close to closing time... Im sitting in the chair and he comes in the door.. catches me completely off guard... and looks at me like... Im here!! Im here to get my treasure. I must have looked like a deer in headlights with the blank stare I gave him when he said: "you remember me right? Im here to pick up the Stomper" 👀😬Crap!!! We didnt discuss what ifs with his wife... I fumbled my words a few times and made up some story about trying remembering where I put it. He says: "I saw you put it in that little room or your office" 😶‍🌫️🫣 I said... after you left I put it in a box and put it up so I wouldnt lose it 😬 I said that I would continue to look for it... and assured him that it was still going to be his (I didnt lie... exactly)... he was SO disappointed... so dejected... he had waited all week... rushed to the bank to cash his check and rished to get to my shop before closing... only to be sent away empty handed. I felt terrible for a few moments but then thought of the smile that his son will get to see today when he gives that childhood memory to his dad for father's day.

I just hope I dont get a bad Google review 👀🤣

As part of this year's Route 66 Centennial and America 250 celebrations, the City of Collinsville, Illinois (Official), Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau and the Collinsville Chamber of Commerce (IL) are teaming up to be a stop on the 2026 Hemmings Great Race!

Great Race participants will be arriving Uptown around 4pm on Saturday, June 20th. The City anticipates around 140 antique vehicles (from 1974 or prior) and up to 5,000 spectators for the Great Race alone – but there will also be a number of additional activities happening Uptown.
