💜GET TO KNOW OAK GROVE COMMUNITY CLOSET! 💚
We receive many wonderful questions, so we’re sharing answers to some of our most frequently asked questions!
ABOUT OAK GROVE COMMUNITY CLOSET
WHAT IS OGCC?
Oak Grove Community Closet is a nonprofit ministry program under Oak Grove Baptist Church’s 501(c)(3) status, providing FREE clothing and shoes to anyone in our local community who can use them.
Our events offer a welcoming, boutique-style shopping experience, whether you need relief from financial pressures or simply need to refresh your family’s wardrobe. You do not have to be experiencing financial hardship to participate.
Through donations, clothing your family has outgrown or no longer needs can refresh someone else’s closet and bless another family. That’s the heart of our mission:
💜Recycle 💚• Refresh 💜• Re-Bless
We offer assistance to those living in Westmoreland, Essex, and Richmond Counties right here in the a northern Neck. Established on July 7, 2025, we launched and began serving local families in August 2025!
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
Oak Grove Baptist Church is the home of Oak Grove Community Closet!
📍 8096 Leedstown Road
Colonial Beach, VA 22443
HOW MANY FAMILIES HAVE YOU SERVED?
Since launching in August 2025, we’ve served more than 650+ families and counting! Each family represents an opportunity to share kindness, provide essentials, and bless our community.
ARE YOU OPEN FULLTIME?
Not at this time. We share space with the church and its school, so we host several scheduled events throughout the year. Our Emergency Hope & Relief Program also provides assistance by referral to families facing crisis situations.
HOW MANY EVENTS DO YOU HOST A YEAR?
We try to host several seasonal events each year! We’re also now partnered with the Oak Grove Baptist Church Food Pantry to reach more families right here in Westmoreland County. We will announce when we will host those events together. Those events when announced, will take place the first Sunday of the month from 1:00-3:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
WHAT IS THE EMERGENCY HOPE & RELIEF PROGRAM?
Our Emergency Hope & Relief Program assists families facing emergency or crisis situations through referrals from our community partners. We’re still building these partnerships and will share more information soon about who our partners are and how to receive assistance.
If you have an emergency make sure to reach out to your local social services office, your church, school, American Red Cross, call 2-11, our local organization for assistance. Most of them know how to contact us to get assistance. Our full list will be available soon. We have served over 20 families since launching this program.
VOLUNTEERING
WHEN CAN I VOLUNTEER?
We need help throughout the year, both in person and from home! Our greatest needs include:
* Sorting and organizing donations behind the scenes
* Preparing for events
* Helping families shop
* Assisting with setup and cleanup
Opportunities to serve from home include:
* Assistant Volunteer Coordinator
* IT Support
* Grant Writer
* Social Media Coordinator
* Events Coordinator
* And much more!
Have a skill you’d like to share? Reach out—we’d love to help you find a way to serve!
WHAT AGES CAN VOLUNTEER?
Volunteers ages 8 and older are welcome, with roles assigned according to age and supervision needs. Families can serve together, and community service hours are available.
If your child is under 8, please contact us so we can discuss how your family might participate.
WHY DO VOLUNTEERS NEED TO REGISTER OR USE YOUR VOLUNTEER RIVER COUNTIES (VRC) SYSTEM?
Registration helps us:
* Create schedules and fill gaps
* Know who is serving and where, especially in an emergency we can locate our volunteers and report to emergency personnel or security
* Track volunteer hours
* Document community support for grant applications
* Provide community service letters when needed
NEED HELP REGISTERING TO VOLUNTEER?
Please reach out! We can help you get scheduled and record your hours. Or we will simply ensure you are signed up to volunteer. It’s super easy to do!
Contact our Volunteer Coordiantor, Candice at [email protected] or phone (804) 410-1751
WHY DO YOU REQUIRE VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT AND PHOTO RELEASE FORM?
These forms explain expectations for the program, your safety, respectful volunteering and help protect our volunteers, the families we serve, and the church. It’s a simple form and we only collect certain data and it is never shared.
The photo release allows you to share your preferences about having your photo taken or shared on social media. We respect your choice not to be photographed.
DONATIONS
DO YOU COLLECT DONATIONS YEAR-ROUND?
Not at this time. Storage space is limited, so we collect donations during announced drives. We’re working to make our storage areas more accommodating so we can better serve our community. Plus we need volunteers year round to assist.
WHAT DONATIONS DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept:
* New or gently used clothing
* New or gently used shoes
* New socks
* New underwear
* New bras
Please donate only clean, wearable items that are free of mold, holes, heavy stains, pet hair, and strong odors. Socks and underwear must be new.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY DONATIONS?
Please place items in securely tied bags, such as plastic shopping or garbage bags. When possible, label the outside with the contents—for example: “Girls’ tops, size 7/8.”
This simple step makes a BIG difference for our sorting volunteers! 💚
HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN AND WHERE TO DONATE?
Watch our page for:
* Collection dates
* Accepted items
* Active drop-off locations in King George and Colonial Beach
Our main collection location is Oak Grove Baptist Church.
We plan collections around the seasons, upcoming events, and available storage. Please donate only during announced collection periods, and never leave donations outside the containers.
Thank you for supporting Oak Grove Community Closet and helping us care for our neighbors!
