EVACUATION NOTICE DIE TO FIRES!!
Aspen Acres Fire — June 29, 2026 Update
On June 29, 2026, the Aspen Acres Fire in Pueblo and Custer counties rapidly grew from about 35 acres to over 2,400 acres in just hours, driven by extreme winds Pueblo Star Journal. The blaze is now 0% contained and is burning along the Custer–Pueblo county line, with evacuations expanding as the fire spreads.
Evacuations
Mandatory evacuations are in effect for:
Town of Beulah
Aspen Acres and Lazy Acres neighborhoods
Bishops Castle on Highway 165
Residents along 12 Mile Road
Areas south of Lake Isabel to Rye FOX21 News Colorado+1
Custer County has evacuated all homes east of Highway 165 from Bishops Castle south to the Pueblo County line, and west-side homes are expected to be evacuated soon FOX21 News Colorado+1.
Road Closures
Highway 165 closed from the Pueblo County line to Highway 96 at Mackenzie Junction FOX21 News Colorado+1.
Highway 78 closed at Mountain Shadows Mobile Estates for westbound traffic Pueblo Star Journal.
Evacuation Centers
Pueblo County Recreation Center – 1650 Cooper Place (accepts household pets) FOX21 News Colorado+1.
Wetmore Community Center – 95 County Road 393 FOX21 News Colorado.
Large animals/livestock accepted at Colorado State Fairgrounds (Gates 6 & 7 off Small Avenue) Pueblo Star Journal.
Restrictions
Stage 2 fire restrictions in effect for all of Pueblo County:
Ban on open burning (campfires, charcoal grills, wood stoves) except pressurized gas/liquid devices with shutoff valves at least 3 ft from vegetation.
No smoking outdoors, fireworks, welding with open flame, or off-road vehicle use Pueblo Star Journal.
Governor Jared Polis has verbally declared a disaster emergency, authorizing Colorado National Guard mobilization FOX21 News Colorado+1.
Smoke & Health
Smoke from the fire is affecting Pueblo, eastern Custer, Crowley, eastern El Paso, and Lincoln counties, with a red flag warning in place for the region Colorado Public Radio.
The state health department has issued a health advisory for poor air quality Colorado Public Radio.
Residents in affected areas should leave immediately and follow official evacuation instructions. For updates, monitor Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office and Custer County Sheriff’s Office channels.
