There’s a lot riding on the fit of a wedding dress. For Kelsey Garcia, getting it right means giving every gown the patience, precision, and care the moment deserves.
Kelsey is the owner of Patient & Kind Alterations, a woman-owned bridal alterations studio in Columbia, Tennessee. With more than 15 years of sewing experience and a degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising, she’s built a business around one of her favorite creative challenges: taking a wedding gown and making it feel like it was made for the bride wearing it.
And the name Patient & Kind isn’t just about her approach to alterations.
Working from her home studio, Kelsey handles each gown with intention and prayer, thinking beyond the dress itself to the bride, the wedding day, and the marriage it represents. It’s a deeply personal approach to a craft where the smallest details can make a very big difference.
But becoming a business owner meant learning to value more than the work in front of her.
Kelsey says one of her biggest challenges has been imposter syndrome, especially when it comes to setting her own prices. It’s something a lot of business owners know well: being confident in your craft is one thing. Putting a number on years of experience, education, skill, and time can feel entirely different.
But 15 years of experience doesn’t disappear just because you’re the one writing the price tag.
Patient & Kind Alterations is built on expertise, creativity, and a whole lot of care, helping brides walk into one of the biggest days of their lives feeling like their dress fits exactly as it should.
