Jahi Akili became a local household name in high school. Ashis interest in the fashion industry grew, so did his aspirations to become a designer.

He read about fashion marketing, trend setting, studied many designers, and was mostly inspired by Haute Couture designers. Akili held his first fashion show in August 2010 in which herevealed 19 beautifully crafted women garments. Since than he has participated in 53 shows; including, Fashion Week Columbus (FWC) in October 2010, were at the ageof 16 he took the audience by surprise. Four ye

ars later, 2014, Akili opened the show for FWC and participated in New York Fashion Week; 2014 and 2016. Since high school he has been thepremier designer in many shows across the country. Jahi by Akili has sold inlocal boutiques, been published in magazines, photo shot by professional photographers , and appeared on local news and radio. Akili pays personal attention to the details. Jahi means “Dignity” which sums up the characteristicsof the Jahi customer: sexy, confident, sophisticated, sensual, and empowered.Akili has made two promises to himself; to make happy customers feelglamorous and to have the name “Jahi” as a household-brand. In 2018, Akilibegin the Jahi Designer Brunch, in which designers come together to discussnew trends, past experiences and have an enjoyable time. The only entranceprice is a donation to his high school fashion design program, The Fashion Club, started by Akili as a high school student. This is how Jahi gives back.

The Jahi Designer Brunch is an event to bring together the Columbus fashion design community.

With Fashion donations used as entry, all donated supplies (books,sewing machines, mannequins, Scissors, fabric, notions, etc.) is donated to The Fashion Program at The Art & College Preparatory Academy.
