Kain (pronounced kah-yin) means cloth in Bahasa Malaysia.
Across Southeast Asia, fabrics are used as portraits of heritage, told by generations of craftspeople. Colors, prints and textures—these are part of their stories.
However, as the region adopted Western-centric designs, many local craftspeople have had to either move away from their disciplines or lower their fees just to earn a living.
This is where our story begins. By applying traditional designs to a modern lifestyle,we can help support craftspeople so they can keep telling their stories .
We strive to not only create an income stream for artisans in Southeast Asia, but also give back 10% of our profits to their communities. We current are partnering with the Hmong tribe in northern Thailand and various indigenous communities in Sarawak, Malaysia.
We combine fabrics with other materials to create unique designs, as well as offer other stylish non-fabric accessories made by artisans.
