We must teach our youth where they come from, the strength in their cultura, the pride in their roots and the fire in their history. They aren’t just the future, they are the living legacy of our ancestors.
Brown N Proud isn’t just a saying, it’s a responsibility.
Let’s raise a generation that knows their worth and one who will carry our cultura even stronger than we ever could. ✊🏽🤎

DHS has announced that Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for El Salvador is set to end September 9, 2026, putting thousands of Salvadoran families who have built their lives in this country at risk.

These are our families, our neighbors, our workers and our community. Many have called this country home for decades. They deserve dignity, protection and the opportunity to keep building their future.

Now is the time to stand together. Speak up. Share their stories. Contact your representatives and demand action to protect Salvadoran families and push for permanent solutions.

To our Salvadoran brothers and sisters: PLEASE BEGIN REACHING OUT TO AN IMMIGRATION LAWYER TO SEE HOW YOU CAN BE PROTECTED. DONT WAIT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 9TH. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. YOUR FIGHT IS OUR FIGHT. WE WILL NOT BE SILENT.

A nuestros hermanos y hermanas salvadoreños: POR FAVOR, COMIENCEN A COMUNICARSE CON UN ABOGADO DE INMIGRACIÓN PARA CONOCER QUÉ OPCIONES TIENEN PARA PROTEGERSE. NO ESPEREN HASTA EL 9 DE SEPTIEMBRE.

NO ESTÁN SOLOS.
SU LUCHA ES NUESTRA LUCHA.
NO NOS QUEDAREMOS CALLADOS.

🇸🇻 UNIDOS SOMOS MÁS FUERTES.

Back in the late 70s, while the punk scene was growing in Chinatown, Chicano bands from East LA like The Stains, Los Illegals and The Brat were making noise and creating their own place in the movement.

The PBS SoCal documentary “Chinatown Punk Wars” tells the story of this era and shows a part of Chicano and LA history that doesn’t always get talked about.

Our people have always been part of the culture of this city. From the music, the art, the streets and everything in between.

Our roots run deep. Our history matters.

ANCIENT & MODERN MAYA | On June 30, 1947, LIFE magazine published an issue titled “Ancient and Modern Maya,” featuring photographs by the Ukrainian American Dmitri Kessel. At that time, LIFE was the most influential photography magazine in the world, capable of bringing millions of readers images that revealed the cultural diversity of the planet.

During the 1940s, its reporters traveled to remote places to document “human life” in all its expressions. This is how Kessel arrived in Guatemala and southern Mexico, to portray contemporary Maya people: their rituals, their daily life, and the profound symbolic relationship they maintained with their ancestors.

The 1947 cover became a cultural icon. It shows an ancient Maya sculpture, probably from Palenque or Copán, alongside the profile of a modern Maya man, both aligned in almost the same position. The composition sought to convey a direct and powerful message: the millennia long continuity of the Maya people.

Through visual contrast, the magazine suggested that the faces carved in stone and the living faces of the present share the same history and the same spirit. Despite the passage of centuries, colonization, and social transformations, Maya identity remains there, persistent, profound, and luminous.

HISTORY IS REPEATING ITSELF 🥀 No due process, no respect and no accountability. We are living in uncertain times, times where persecution has been given the green light in a land where justice and liberty were the foundation but now even the constitution has been disregarded. Action, prayer and unity is all we have at the moment. I pray we all stay safe and vigilant during this time and continue using our voices for those who can’t speak up. 🙏🏽🤎
