Dawn Nguyen is the founder, owner and creative fashion designer for Dawn Sunflower Corporation. The origin of the name, Dawn Sunflower, comes in part from her American name, Dawn, which means the rising of the sun and Sunflower which, translated from her Vietnamese name, means dedication, stand tall and stand proud. Dawn’s personality, emotion, drive and ambition can be seen in every detail of her design work. She is all about seeing the sunshine, in life and in her designs, even when the going is tough. Her designs align with her philosophy of “Creativity – Heart – Emotion.” Through this design philosophy, Dawn is all about showing off her creativity, giving her designs all of her heart and bring you to the point of eliciting joy and love (emotion) when you put on one of her garments. Dawn is known for her classic, feminine, elegant styles and luxurious materials and cuts. She has a vision of turning quality fabrics into fashion and in that single moment then transforming a woman’s body into a work of art. Dawn Sunflower was founded in 2013 by Dawn Nguyen, when she was a fashion design student at the prestigious FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) in Los Angeles, California. Prior to the creation of her own brand, Dawn entered some international student designer’s competitions and also participated in a few charity fashion shows. She subsequently went on to develop Dawn Sunflower and has showcased her line internationally, in London, as well as domestically in Arizona, California, Nevada (Las Vegas) and in New York. After various professional experiences, including an internship at Los Angeles showrooms, her school education and some self-teaching, Dawn decided to launch Dawn Sunflower. Dawn Sunflower is a targeted high-end (measured and made-to-order) luxury clothing that makes a woman feel the power of her mantra “creativity – heart – emotion.” She opened her first flagship store, Dawn Sunflower Boutique, in southern California, Corona Del Mar, in January 2015. In early 2016, the name was changed to Dawn Sunflower Corporation. Dawn has joined forces with a production manufacturing team in Southern California and is partnering with other production contractors both for her new brand, DTN Sunflower, as well as for other brands. The DTN Sunflower line is targeted to the mass production market. The meaning behind DTN Sunflower is that is represents her full name, Dawn T. Nguyen and Sunflower, which translated from her Vietnamese name, means dedication, stand tall and stand proud. The shortening of the name to Dawn Sunflower was done to differentiate her signature brand from her mass market brand. Dawn Sunflower and DTN Sunflower are both proudly made in the USA. Biography
Dawn moved to California when she was in her early 20’s. She came from Asia to pursue the American dream. She initially attended Riverside Community College where she received both an A.A. She then attended the University of California, Riverside where she graduated with a Bachelors in Business Management with a focus on Human Resource Management. It was during this time that she was selected as part of a group of twenty-three students to study at the University of Oxford in their “Global Enterprise Management” program. She obtained a certificate from this program which was given to her by the directors of the Department for Continuing Education at the University of Oxford and the School of Business Administration at the University of California, Riverside. Next, Dawn attended FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) where she attended and subsequently completed the P.D. program. After completing her studies, Dawn has gone on to develop the brand Dawn Sunflower and a line of couture evening gowns which have been displayed on the runway, on television, at charity events and in various magazines including British Vogue, Tatler, Glamour, FCM, Sicky, iMute, and Hollywood Weekly Magazine.
