Maybe I am Orwellian or of a dystopian line of thought but I am traveling for business and Motel 6 in Ventura, Ca offered no option but digital kiosk check in. The digital kiosk used facial recognition tech and I was not informed in advance that biometric data collection would be mandatory to check in. There were three employees present behind the counter but they said their system was down and there was no other way to check in.

Am I off base thinking this is invasive and unnecessary? 3 people could not figure out how to check me in manually? There is no other option? They couldn’t make a phone call and verify my reservation?

What would you do?

Santa Barbara, we’re setting up shop on the waterfront.

Dotty rolls into the Old Spanish Days Fiesta Arts & Crafts Show this Saturday and Sunday, loaded with thousands of original magazine pages pulled straight from the archive. Ads, covers, illustrations and interesting stories pulled from magazines sitting around since before most of us were born.

We specialize in rare first edition JC Leyendecker covers. Leyendecker created the American male ideal, square jaw, tailored suit, and lived with his partner Charles Beach for over fifty years while he did it. His career built the foundation of Americana that made Norman Rockwell famous but Rockwell credited him for his entire style of art!

Come find a gift. Or a piece for the wall. Or just come flip through and see what stops you.

📍 Fiesta Arts & Crafts Show, Cabrillo Boulevard
🗓 August 8 & 9
🕙 10am to 6pm

Bring someone who’ll appreciate a good jawline.

Turns out, even history has a temperature limit.

This weekend’s forecast is a little too enthusiastic, so the Vintage Printage Archive at Corona Heritage Park will be closed due to extreme heat.

Our magazines have already survived decades of attics, garages, basements, and moving trucks. We’d rather not ask them to take on sweat, dropping off of bodies that are dealing with triple-digit temperatures.

Stay somewhere with air conditioning, drink plenty of water, and we’ll reopen when Southern California remembers how to behave.

See you next weekend in Santa Barbara!

Another box arrived this weekend. Magazines left behind in boxes, in closets, in the trunk of the car, in stasis. This box had Life, the Post, People, Kennedy, Elvis and among the Rolling Stone collection a Y2K time capsule of post grunge grandeur. So coming soon, Brittany, boy bands, Santana, Leo on the heels of Titanic and more. The Stones Stash Y2K edition debuts Labor Day weekend. On your paper calendar in actual Sharpie friends. It won’t last long. #

Dotty’s rolling into Los Feliz this weekend with over 3,000 original magazine pages. These aren’t repops, they are actual pages, pulled from 20th-century American magazines that were headed to the landfill.

If you’re a stylist, art director, or designer who sources intentionally, this is the stop. Meaningful articles encapsulating moments of culture and history,, vintage ads, illustrated covers — all unframed because the style choices are yours to make, starting at $10.

Los Feliz Flea 1030 Alpine St, Los Angeles (near the 110/101 interchange) Saturday & Sunday, 10am–4pm

Every page that sells is one less thing in a landfill. We’re a greenhouse gas reduction project, shop with us and save the world.

Come find us. Dotty’s hard to miss.

Congratulations to Nick on the opening of Nick - Ad Patina - Chicago, IL in Chicago.

Most people see a vintage watch ad as old paper. Nick sees industrial design, photography, typography, history, and the stories that sold some of the world’s greatest watches.

He created a place where collectors can experience the art behind the watches we admire and some of the greatest luxury advertising imagined.

If you’re in Chicago, stop by and see what he’s built. This weekend catch him at the Windup Watch Fair Congratulations Nick. Wishing you packed walls, great conversations, and many years of helping preserve this incredible corner of history.
