🏖️ LOOK HOW CALM THAT SURF IS, BEACH BUMS !

Man, look at that Gulf! What you see right now is pretty much what you can expect for the rest of the weekend. Calm surf, light southeast winds, and some pretty decent water along the Texas coast.

The water clarity may actually improve a little more as we move through the weekend, but even right now, it’s not looking bad at all.

🌅 Get out there EARLY! The morning hours should be absolutely beautiful on the beach, especially from sunrise through late morning. Once we get around noon, that Texas heat is going to start cooking, so take advantage of those cooler morning hours.

🪰 And BEACH BUM WARNING: Watch those horseflies!

With those light southeast winds, them ankle-eating little vampires are going to know exactly where to find you. If you’re sitting around camp or walking the beach, you better keep an eye on your ankles!

Calm surf, warm water, light winds and a beautiful weekend ahead. If you’ve been waiting for a good weekend to hit the Texas coast, this is looking like a mighty good one.

Have a great weekend, Beach Bums! 🌴

Enjoy the Texas coast, be safe out there, and make some memories!

🌀 DOLLY IS HEADING WEST... SHOULD TEXAS BE WORRIED ?

Tropical Storm Dolly is racing west across the Atlantic, and while there is NO immediate threat to Texas right now, this is one storm Beach Bums are going to want to keep an eye on.

Dolly is packing winds around 40 mph and moving west at roughly 24 mph. That’s a pretty good clip, and she still has a whole lot of warm Atlantic water ahead of her.

Right now, forecasters expect Dolly to weaken and possibly fall apart into a tropical wave before reaching the Leeward Islands.

But here’s the part that gets my attention...

She’s moving WEST.

Heavy rain could begin affecting the Leeward Islands late Saturday into Sunday, then spread toward the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola.

🌴 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR TEXAS?

At the moment, nothing immediate.

No panic.
No boarding up windows.
No loading the cooler and heading inland.

But late August is prime tropical season, and any system moving west across the Atlantic deserves a little attention until we know exactly what it’s going to do.

Dolly has a long road ahead of her, and a lot can happen between the middle of the Atlantic and the Gulf.

So for now, we watch.

One eye on the beach.
One eye on the tropics. 👀

I’ll keep tracking Dolly and let y’all know if she strengthens, changes direction, or starts looking more interesting for the Gulf Coast.

Stay salty and stay weather aware, Beach Bums !

🌴 BEACH BUM’S WEEKEND OUTLOOK: YOU’RE GONNA LOVE THIS!

Man oh man, is it gonna be a beautiful weekend in Port Aransas and out on Padre Island!

Seas are looking calm, warm, and downright inviting, with around 1-foot seas through most of the weekend. By Sunday afternoon, we could see things bump up closer to 2 feet, but overall it’s shaping up to be one heck of a beach weekend.

🎣 Fishing should be EXCELLENT early in the morning and again right around sunset. With that bright Waning Gibbous Moon still throwing plenty of light across the water, don’t overlook the nighttime bite either!

💨 Winds will stay fairly light out of the east-southeast.

🌡️ Temperatures on the Island should hang in the upper 80s, making it a whole lot more comfortable than what we’ve been dealing with lately.

🌊 And the water? If everything comes together the way it’s looking, we could see some of the prettiest Gulf water we’ve had all year!

If you’re not down here this weekend, you probably should be. Grab the fishing rods, load up the beach gear, and come enjoy it while Mother Nature is behaving herself.

Be safe out there, Beach Bums, and remember...

🧛 Keep an eye out for those DUNE VAMPIRES during the early morning hours! If you know, you know.

🎣 WHY FRIDAY IS AN EXCELLENT DAY FOR FISHING

Today is shaping up to be one of those days when the fish should actually cooperate instead of staring at your bait like they already ate breakfast.

The biggest advantage is better feeding activity during the prime early morning and late afternoon windows. When tide movement, lower light, and bait activity overlap, predators such as redfish, speckled trout, black drum, and Spanish mackerel are much more likely to get on the move and start feeding.

🌅 EARLY MORNING
Get out there before sunrise. Cooler water, lower light, and active baitfish can make the first few hours of daylight the hottest bite of the day.

🌊 MOVING WATER
Good current movement helps push shrimp, mullet, and other bait through guts, channels, cuts, jetties, and shoreline structure. Find moving water with bait around it and you have found the dinner table.

🎣 BEST PLACES TO TARGET
• Beach guts and washouts
• Packery Channel
• Port Aransas jetties
• Pier ends reaching cleaner water
• Laguna Madre grass lines and drop-offs
• Deeper channels during the hotter part of the day

🔥 BEACH BUM TIP
Don’t burn your best fishing hours sleeping in. Friday’s bite should favor the fisherman holding a rod at sunrise, not the one holding a breakfast taco at 10 AM wondering where all the fish went.

FRIDAY BITE RATING: EXCELLENT ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Old fishermen around Port Aransas will tell you there are certain nights when you shouldn’t stay on the beach too long.

Full moon nights.

They say the story goes back generations, to a fisherman who disappeared somewhere off Mustang Island during a bright full moon.

His boat washed ashore the next morning.
His lantern was still burning.
But he was never found.

Ever since, strange things have been reported when the moon hangs full over the Gulf.

Footprints appear in wet sand where nobody has walked.

Fishing lines suddenly pull tight, then go completely slack.

And people standing alone near the water have heard someone quietly calling their name from beyond the breakers.

The old-timers had one warning:

If you hear your name coming from the Gulf…

DON’T ANSWER.

Because whatever is calling already knows who you are.

And on nights when the moon is especially bright, some fishermen swear they can still see that old lantern floating far beyond the surf.

Tonight, there’s a full moon over Port Aransas.

So enjoy the view.

Catch some fish.

But if you see a little light moving way out beyond the breakers…

Pack your gear.

It might be time to head home. 👻

🚨 BOB HALL PIER VANDALS IDENTIFIED! ARRESTS COULD BE COMING SOON

Well, it looks like the net has finally closed in...

Read the story here:
https://tinyurl.com/mwmhssnj

All FOUR individuals believed to be involved in the vandalism at Bob Hall Pier have reportedly been identified, and arrests could be coming soon.

But looking at these guys, they sure appear mighty young. And that raises a bigger question...

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TO THEM IF THEY’RE FOUND GUILTY? 👇

Personally, I hope accountability doesn’t end with paying a fine.

Put some work gloves on them.

Give them plenty of community service cleaning our beaches, picking up trash, helping maintain parks and putting some sweat back into the same coastal community they’re accused of disrespecting.

A few long, HOT South Texas days filling trash bags along the beach might leave a bigger impression than sitting around the house.

And hopefully their parents get involved too, because when young people make decisions like this, somebody needs to make sure the lesson sticks.

👇 WHAT DO Y’ALL THINK?

If they’re convicted, what would be a fair punishment?

🌀 TROPICAL STORM DOLLY IS STEAMING WEST...

While we're enjoying a pretty decent beach day here along the Texas coast, there's something way out in the Atlantic that's starting to get our attention...

Tropical Storm Dolly is rolling WEST.

Now before anybody starts buying 47 cases of bottled water and fighting over plywood , Dolly is NOT currently a threat to Texas or the Gulf Coast.

But it's late August, we're heading into September, and this is exactly the time of year when I start keeping one eye on the beach and the other eye way out across the Atlantic.

Dolly is moving quickly westward across the tropical Atlantic. Conditions ahead are expected to become less favorable, with increasing wind shear and dry air likely weakening the system as it approaches the northeastern Caribbean.

So right now? No panic. No hurricane hype. Just something worth watching to see what, if anything, survives farther west.

🌊 BACK HERE AT THE BEACH...

The water actually isn't looking too bad!

You can clearly see where the dirty water meets the cleaner water, with that clean-water line sitting right around the SECOND GUT.

🎣 That's good news for fishermen. Wade fishermen should still be able to reach cleaner water in spots, while folks fishing from the piers and jetties should have an even better shot at it.

🌊 Surf: Around 2 to 3 feet
💨 Winds: Picking up a little
🥵 Temperature: Still hotter than a truck seat in August
💧 Water: Cleaner water around the second gut

And we're entering one of my favorite stretches of beach season.

Late August rolls into September and October, and that's when we can start getting some absolutely beautiful water, calmer surf and some darn good fishing days.

Enjoy the beach...
