We’re excited for the return of Oregon Country Fair, for the beautiful community and holy mischief we’ve been missing, and because Eric will be joining Earl Newman at his booth selling some special edition OCF posters they’ve been working on together. This will be Earl’s 49th year as a crafter at the Fair, but his first year with officially commissioned OCF prints. (They’ll have some new Earl and the Elephants shirts too!). Come and see them at Booth 212!

Summit is a special little community, nestled in the misty Oregon Coast Range Mountains. It’s home to Earl Newman and many other makers and artists and good people. We had such a great time today at the Holiday Market at the Summit Grange Hall, the first time we’ve gotten to see folks’ reaction to our wearable art in-person. And they got to see the shirts next to Earl’s original prints. Thanks to all who stopped by today! We’re closing up shop for the holiday season but look forward to the next run in the New Year. Fun Fact: The Summit Grange Hall was built in 1912, and it’s still a vibrant community gathering space. Word on the street is they’re throwing a New Years banger with High in the Hog playing late.

We are so deeply grateful for everyone who has purchased a shirt from us and for everyone who has started following our little story as it unfolds. We are truly feeling the love! And we hope you feel all the love poured into every part of this project - the collaboration, the celebration of a brilliant artist and culture worker, and every piece of wearable art we print and ship. Truly, thank you. We’re closing the online shop at midnight tonight and heading out to hang with Earl at the Summit Holiday Craft Bazaar Saturday 12-3pm at the Summit Community Grange Hall. We’ll be back online in 2022 with a new run of designs from Earl’s original artwork. So get those orders in today, we’ll get them shipped tomorrow morning. ❤️🕊🦉✌️❤️

The Story of the Dove, in five screens. Throughout his artistic career, Earl Newman played with onion paper to make his signature layers of color in his original silkscreen prints. Translating those layers to a 5-color screen process is a creative challenge but one of the best parts of this collaboration. Ever grateful to Earl for his inspiration and mentorship in bringing the Dove to life. 💙🕊💙

“I like things in threes,” Earl said when asked why he wanted to add another design to this first run of shirts. And we all got excited about the idea of using this dove, which is pulled from the top of his Peace Now! art print. Earl told us the story of how it came to be, inspired by the open space at the top of his signature long vertical paper. It just needed to fly there. We had fun working with Earl to reimagine the dove as it’s own design here as our third offering. We love it and we hope you love it too! Head over to our Etsy shop (link in bio) and order soon for delivery by Christmas. 💙🕊💙

How do you measure a lifetime of art-making? For Earl, it’s held in deep shelves along a long wall of his studio in Summit, Oregon. Fifty iconic posters for the Monterey Jazz Fest. Anti-war emblems. Reflections of the natural world and imaginary worlds. Art for Shakespeare, music, surfing, and life. So choosing which pieces of Earl’s art to print onto apparel was an inspiring and nearly impossible task. Luckily, you don’t have to choose, or travel to his studio in Oregon coast range mountains. You can buy original prints directly from Earl at www.earlnewmanprints.com - our whole goal with this project is to get more of Earl’s art out into the world, whether it’s original art on your walls or wearable art on your body. 🕊

Peace Now! Earl first made this day-glow call to action 50 years ago. He recounted the first print that was just the giant hand, then an earth where the peace sign is now, and a dove eventually made its way into the most recent version in Earl’s studio. We pulled the dove off this piece and it’ll be it’s own print that is starting on the presses tomorrow. Check out our Etsy shop to get some wearable history and the artful reminder to be in the NOW!
