Since Tenacity is about persistence, it’s time I show it in action.
This year, I’m making the lifestyle changes I need to lose weight and keep it off for good.
Many of you know how much I’ve struggled with weight. Just look at the pics.
I’ve never been addicted to drugs or drinking, but eating has always been my ‘go-to’ during times of extreme stress and even depression.
Dieting, for me, doesn’t work. As soon as the diet stops, I gain all the weight back, and then some.
That’s why I’m deciding to stop dieting and instead, make the necessary lifestyle changes to get to a healthy weight.
How will I do it?
1. This post is the first step in taking accountability. By putting this out into the world, I now feel like I have to deliver on something.
2. Intermittent fasting. I’ll essentially skip a meal a day to help reach a calorie deficit. I’ll still try to meet my macros, but just give my body more time to recover after eating. This will be for life moving forward.
3. I will slowly shift away from foods high in saturated fats and processed sugars. Cutting it out cold turkey will just result in reverting back to my old ways. My ultimate goal is to cut down fast food to less than once a week. A cheat meal a week is okay.
4. Once my new eating habits are locked in, I’ll increase physical activity to 6 days a week. Diet is about 70-80% of losing weight, but increasing physical activity will help overcome plateaus when diet is no longer enough. I can also give my body a chance to lose weight before intense physical activity to help prevent injuries.
5. I aim to lose about 1-2 lbs a week. I don’t want loose skin after this, so losing weight slowly will be imperative for healing stretched skin.
6. I plan to give regular updates. Right now, I’m 325 lbs and my goal is 230-240, depending on accumulated muscle mass. Expect updates at least once a week.
If you’ve been thinking about making a change, there’s no better time right now than to make it.
I challenge all of you to make at least one change for the better (be it physical or mental), post it as a comment, and join this journey with me on a path to a healthier and happier lifestyle.
