At the Washington School of Ballet, lapsed ballet dancers—as well as new ones—train alongside prima ballerinas. Now in her 60s, world-renowned dancer and choreographer Miya Hisaka has made it her life’s mission to introduce ballet to adults of any age or experience level, debunking the myth that the art is exclusively for the young, thin, or white. You may often hear "Why dance?" But let's change the question to "why not dance?". Whether you're in the studio or performing on stage, here are just a few benefits of being in dance!

We've broken it down into Three C's:
-Communication: Dancers learn how to present themselves and material, interact with peers/teachers/audience, and how to listen to music/directions/feedback/what their body needs.

-Collaboration: Dancers learn how to share ideas, work alongside peers, and be an important part of the team.

-Confidence: In the studio and tackling a step or stepping out on stage to show off the piece they've mastered, dancers build self-esteem as they develop technique and conquer new challenges.

And most important, these skills are important for all, not just those who go on to professional dance. Build lifelong habits and friendships in dance!

You all have been so good with the donations over the years, but now that I have retired from theatre and dance, I have no outlet for these treasures. I have hundreds of dance shoes, leotards, tights, warmups, etc for tots to teens (mostly girl-presenting). I am ready to give them all away, especially to needier homes.
