I've been away from Instagram on this account for a year. I left because I felt uncomfortable in the cloth diapering community as it was then (I can't speak for what it is now).

I have never been good at content creation, and selling myself as a consultant was so hard because I felt such pressure to be perfect. I noticed not only how opinionated people could be- but also how judgemental they could come across to others.

I also felt that the cloth diapering space was becoming saturated with advertisements and insincere promotion of prints and products.

*On the other side, I found lots of genuine, sweet creators- so by no means does this refer to everyone*

There's so much to add here, but I'll move on.

I've closed my website because it was never successful but did cost me quite a bit of money. πŸ˜‚ I am discontinuing any sales or consulting until further notice.

Pending that things ever change for me, I would love to return to this space and offer everything for free. Maybe a monthly Zoom meeting to have a Q&A session would be good.

That said- my views on cloth diapering have changed a lot. And I think that knowledge can help people. I'll be making a few posts over the next few days to highlight some of these changes- and hopefully it will help someone.

Thanks for being here! 🧑

Our newborn experience (so far) with: Thirsties Newborn Size Hook & Loop Cover

These have been one of my favorites so far, in the week since baby has been here.

I was not a fan of these covers with my first baby. I thought they were too small right from the start. In reality, they're not too small at all- but they need to be paired with the right absorbency to make them work well.

What I like about these:

🌱 Very trim fitting as far as Newborn covers are concerned
🌱 Fits nicely under the Umbilical cord stump
🌱 Hook & loop closure makes it faster to put on and easier to get a customized fit

Keep in mind that this a sized cover. It's not going to fit for a long time- estimate is 4 to 10 pounds. If you have a smaller baby, you're going to get more use out of these. My baby is currently 6 lbs 8 oz- and this cover fits very nicely, with a little room to grow. I'll try to make updates on how it fits going forward.

My favorite pairings with this cover:

🌱 Stretchy bamboo half-flat in kite or origami fold
🌱 Newborn sized prefold from Cloth-eez

I have usually opted not to use any fastener with this particular cover. It is snug enough that it holds the absorbency in place nicely.

Have you used this style with a newborn? What was your experience with it?

How has everyone's summer been? Ours has been very busy- full of little adventures and lots of planning for baby number 3, who will be here in about a month.

This summer, our go-to diaper choice for my 18 month old has been muslin flats and traditional wool covers. It's a bonus that the wool covers can just be adorable little shorts when we leave the house too.

What has been your go-to style of diaper this summer?

Our muslin flats:

Our traditional wool covers: first photo is from

Our basket of little diapering odds and ends. We keep this on our entertainment center, since it's out of reach from little hands- and we do most of our diaper changes in that room anyway.

What we have in our basket:
🌱 Magic Stick
🌱 Snappi x 4
🌱 diaper pins
🌱 Origami stay-dry diaper liners from
🌱 Homemade bamboo velour diaper liners I made myself
🌱 Some homemade wipes I keep for drying baby off before applying diaper cream.

Is it difficult to travel with cloth diapers?

Honest answer: in my experience, it's not "difficult" per se, but I would call it somewhat inconvenient.

However, that doesn't mean it won't be worth it. Everyone is going to have different circumstances for their travels- and different personalities- that determine how difficult (or inconvenient) they feel it is.

Here are some factors that will make traveling with cloth easier for your family (but are certainly not required for success!):

- You feel confident with cloth diapering
- You want to cloth diaper while traveling
- You only have one child in cloth diapers
- You have travel partners that support cloth diapering
- You have travel partners that know how to change cloth diapers
- You have adequate space to pack or store the amount of cloth diapers you need
- You will have access to a washing machine at your destination (Although washing most certainly can be done by hand)
- You have access to a cloth-safe diaper cream
- If your travel consists of a few traveling days at the beginning and end, with your family staying in one central place for the majority of your trip.

Each of the above that applies to you is going to make things just a little bit easier. So, if you find that many of the above apply to you- you're already ahead or the game.

Remember that although traveling with cloth often requires a little inconvenience- it will get easier as you find what works best for your family.

This month's theme is traveling with cloth diapers- one of my absolute favorite topics. πŸ˜‚

Lets start with this: Why cloth diaper while traveling?

There are lots of reasons why- or situations when- you may choose to take cloth diapers with you while traveling- ranging from practical to (in my case) pure stubbornness. Or- a mix of both!

Here are a just a few such reasons/situations:

🌱 To save money
🌱 To keep things consistent (for baby AND you)
🌱 For trips of undefined length
🌱 For trips where buying disposables would be inconvenient
🌱 As a personal challenge
🌱 For the photo opportunities

And there are so many more!

Remember, your reasons are valid- even if they seem silly to someone else.

Personally, my travel budget is usually tight enough that I really don't want to have to buy disposables on top of everything else. Also- it's what our family is used to- and that makes it seem easier somehow.

What about you? What's your reason for taking cloth diapers with you while traveling? Has it been worth it?

Candid diaper bag photo from an afternoon out strawberry picking on our recent visit to California. β˜€οΈπŸ“

I love taking cloth diapers with us on all travels we make- big or small. This time, it was admittedly harder than usual!

Traveling with cloth diapers is going to look different for everyone, depending on where they are in their cloth diapering journey- and their lives in general!

We've done several cloth-diaper-only road trips, and they were great! But this time I was not feeling it. 😜 And that's okay! This is what we decided to do instead:

- Packed disposables for the entire road trip part of our vacation.
- Washed and packed all cloth diapers for use once we arrived at our destination.

For the 8 days we were staying in one place, we used cloth and washed as usual.

There isn't just one right way to cloth diaper on vacation- or one way to cloth diaper in general! We're doing what works for us, and I hope you are too. πŸ€—

I did something new this week! I successfully replaced the elastics in an old Grovia diaper. I know many people already do this, but it's a first for me! Doesn't look as perfect as I would have liked, but it got the job done and feels strong.

It's so satisfying to me to take time to repair these things and get more use out of them. Have you ever replaced diaper elastics (or otherwise repaired a cloth diaper)? How did it turn out?

Cloth Diapering Basics: Removing Solid Waste from Leg Elastics

I doubt if rinsing p**p from a cloth diaper is anyone's idea of a good time. But since we have to do it anyway- let's not forget to take an extra minute to address those leg elastics.

This is important, because debris tends to get stuck in the creases of leg elastics, and once it dries there, it becomes more difficult to remove- even in the washing machine. This can cause smells- and even actual physical evidence 😜- to make it through the wash and onto your baby's bum.

Simple ways to address this issue:

- Remove solids as promptly as possible. The less time it has to dry onto the diaper, the better.

- *Gently* stretch the leg elastics after removing solids, and look to make sure nothing has gotten stuck there. If anything has been left behind, rinse again, focusing on that area.

- In the event you have dried-on debris in the leg elastic area that is difficult to remove, try getting the area wet, let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, then try rinsing it again.

Got a few orders mailed off yesterday. It's so exciting to be a part of another person's cloth diapering experience- no matter how small that part may be. 🧑

And just like that, the last of our 4-layer bamboo inserts are gone. (We still have a few of their hemp/cotton inserts left though, of you've been looking for some. 😏)

posted some "well used" cloth diapers/nappies, and it really made me think about my family's well-loved diapers.

We don't see a lot of well-worn diapers being posted, since they aren't really all that attractive to look at.

The diapers in the picture were originally purchased second-hand. Since then, they have been through two more babies.

They're showing their age. I wouldn't try to resell them by any means. But we love them, and they still work great. Being able to really utilize all the potential in an item feels so good.

Do you have any cloth diapers in your stash that are aging (maybe not-so) gracefully? I would love to see them. 😊

Here's your reminder to get those littles involved in helping "fold" diaper (or any) laundry.

My 11 month old loves to pull items out of the basket and give them to me to put away.

My 3 year old likes to help sort into categories (nighttime diapers, wipes, etc).

Do your little ones help with diaper laundry?
