What's the big deal about resoling using the original welts?

They have holes from the previous stitching and if you miss the holes you add more holes in the welts. Rendering them to become weak, not last as long and may not look nearly as nice.

Which makes it a challenge to restitch any previously used welts, especially with a double row.

Ariats in for a third time.
These young bucks are working too hard out here in their leather soled boots.
I know sole guards would help 'em last longer, but so many of these guys will only accept leather bottoms period.

So I talked him into two leather soles. Second resole on these welts, third resole on these boots.

10/11 Super Prime Leather Soles with thick JR by Kilger Half Soles stacked on top.

(FUN FACT; JR Leather is oak pit tanned in an actual pit of oak leaves for a long period of time in Germany, which makes it more durable and water proof.)

Stitched one row on first sole, then stitched through both for second row of stitching. And can't forget new heels with Walk Base Fine Line 18 Iron heels for some ground pounding.

He says he's not going to work in them anymore, 🤠 I'll believe it when I see it.

With new cork filler, new leather shank (to replace old ones, one was missing too), new welts, new thick leather midsoles, thin red rubber midsole, with Vibram 100's on top, with a few brass screws, new leather heel bases and 100's heels.
See the before video on the condition of these bad oscars, they were rough.

Is it worth repairing, restoring and upgrading the world's most comfortable 🤠 western boots around?
I say why not try to make these $595 boots that took the abuse of your hard work already, make 'em last even longer which will be worth even more.
That's what I call an investment!
