10 Easy Steps to Consigning
If you’re new to the consignment process, you’re more than likely slightly overwhelmed with getting started. Consigning your kids’ items successfully can be daunting — but with a little planning and organization, the payout can be awesome. If you’re ready to tackle consigning for the first time, here’s a general overview of what your process should look like.

Step 1 — Go to the Crossville Sweet Peas website READ over all of the tabs there. Click the Consignors tab. Read all of that. Next click Preparing for the Sale and read all of that. Next, click FAQs and read over all of that. It will probably answer all or most all of your questions. Once you decide to become a new consignor, you MUST TEXT Cortney at 931-265-2476 and get a consignor number. Do not pick your own.
I get many many questions every day that would be answered if people would just read over the website. I love to help people, so don't get me wrong, I will help you, but please do a little research first to see if you can find the answer. If not shoot me a text or email. I'll answer your questions! http://crossvillesweetpeas.com

Step 2 — Gather your items.
If you’re a pro, you’ve been squirreling away items to consign for a while so you know exactly what needs to be sold. If you haven’t, now is a good time to go through your kids’ closets, their toy boxes, and the garage to decide what you’d like to get rid of. Remember, Crossville Sweet Peas' sales are seasonal, so make sure you’re only picking out items that are allowed. Jeans are acceptable all year! We want clothes, shoes, toys, books, DVD's, puzzles, games, baby and infant items. Large things sell very well ie: cribs, strollers, pack n plays, carseats, outdoor play toys, etc.
This is the perfect time to make sure you have all of your essentials-
*Hangers- wire are best, but plastic are ok also.
*Cardstock- can be found in the office supply section of Walmart or Staples or online (Amazon carries it!)
*Safety pins- to attach the tags to your clothing. Please do not use the ones found at the dollar store. They are too flimsy.
*Packing or painters tape to attach tags to the toys and books.
*Zip Ties to zip tie shoes together. Please do not put them in ziplock bags. If there is no where to attach a zip tie, then use two large safety pins together.
*Duck tape or a good thick tape to put over the wire hangers to pin spaghetti strap tank tops/dresses and heavy jeans. There are pictures on the website and facebook on how to do this.

Step 3 — Check your items for quality.
Quality of your items is key — especially at Sweet Peas where shoppers know they’re going to find high-quality, gently-used items. Quality determines how well they’ll sell, and whether the items will be pulled before the sale even starts (because if your items aren’t up to standards, they won’t allow them on the sales floor). A good rule of thumb is, “would you buy this item?” If not, you might need to consider donating or tossing it instead. Absolutely no holes, tears, stains, and free of smoke smell. Shoes must be clean and free from scuffs. Shoes must be in good to great condition.

Step 4 — Prep your items.
Clothes should be washed and in their best condition. Toys should be cleaned and fitted with new batteries if batteries are used. Strollers should be wiped down and have clean wheels. Basically, make sure all your items are in a condition in which YOU would want to bring them home as a new owner.

Step 5 — Enter your items.
Once you have everything ready, get them entered into Crossville Sweet Peas online tagging program. This involves picking the category they best fit into, describing them, and pricing them. Pricing can be tricky, but a good rule of thumb is listing items at 70 – 75% off their original price. Obviously, you can always take age, condition, or rarity into consideration when deciding on a price. I tend to price things down. I know the community and basically I just want my things to sell. I don't want to bring much back home! Don't forget to mark the tag if you want it to be discounted 50% off the last day and if you want it donated at the end of the sale. (We donate to Crossville's local Foster Closet) Items marked 50% will sell at a much higher rate than those marked ND.

Step 6 — Tag your items
Now that all your items have been entered into the system, print out the tags onto cardstock and match them up with the appropriate item — you can print them at home, or have them printed and cut at an office supply store such as Staples. It is much cheaper to print at home. Make sure they’re all attached securely to your items; if they fall off there’s a good chance your item won’t sell.

Step 7 — Drop your items off at the sale.
There’s an art to an efficient drop off, but the biggest rule is: Have all of you clothing sorted by gender and size, keep your items clean when you transport them! Wrap clothing in clean sheets or plastic bags, and keep toys separated in boxes or tubs. If everything is organized in your vehicle, it will make sorting them into the sale much easier at drop off. Sweet Peas also helps out by making rolling clothes racks available to their sellers who are dropping off carloads of great items!

Step 8 — Come shop!
One of the best parts of consigning is getting to shop early! Consignors will get to shop the evening prior to opening to the public from 6-8pm! If you'd like to shop even earlier- then sign up as a volunteer (Pod Member). I can't do this sale without my many volunteers and I never turn down help! Volunteers get to shop from 5-6pm on Consignor night. If you volunteer, you get first pick! Just contact me prior to the sale to set up volunteer times or set up online through the tagging system.

🧺Step 9 — Pick up any unsold merchandise.
If you did not opt to donate your unsold items, make sure you pickup your items at the designated time, or they might get donated anyway! If any of your items were pulled prior to the sale, Sweet Peas will let you know why on the tag for each item — use that information to adjust your tactics for next season!

💲Step 10 — You're done!
That’s it — you’re done! Now all that you need to do is sit back, and wait for your check to arrive in the mail. It can be a lot of work getting everything done on time for your sale, but it’s always worth it in the end — your gently used children's and baby items get a new home by those who need them, you get a lot of clutter out of your house, and you get paid for it! It’s a “win” for everyone, especially when you have a good game plan going into the process.

At the consignment sale this past week, 2 different shoppers lost items after they paid for them. One was a boys shirt size 6-7. The other items were 2 girl's hairbows. These were lost/found on two separate days. If you lost either of these items, please text me at 931-265-2476 and I will get them back to you.
