A heavy week in the parks.

Our hearts are with everyone impacted by the flooding at Grand Canyon, the communities facing wildfires in Big Sur, and the crews, park staff, firefighters and first responders working through it all.

Big Sur is still burning. Grand Canyon is recovering from devastating flash floods. And Yosemite is facing a proposed land exchange that could put public land at risk.

Three different stories. One reminder to pay attention, support affected communities and speak up for the parks.

✨Ways to help + stay informed✨ :

Follow CAL FIRE and Big Sur Fire for fire activity updates, evacuations and closures. Download Watch Duty for real-time wildfire snd evacuation alerts. If you’re a local, sign up for Alert Monterey County for emergency notifications.

Respect all closure orders and support local response efforts if you’re able. Consider supporting the Monterey County Fire Relief Fund, which is assisting communities impacted by the fires.

Follow GrandCanyonNPS for closures and emergency updates, and please don’t enter closed areas while search, recovery and damage assessments continue.

You can support Grand Canyon Conservancy | Nonprofit Partner , the park’s official nonprofit partner, as it helps fund conservation, infrastructure and long-term recovery work.

If you know someone who may have been in the affected Bright Angel Creek corridor on August 29, share that information directly with NPS investigators.

✨Ways to help + speak up ✨:

Follow NPCA for updates on the proposed Yosemite land exchange and share the story so more people know what’s being considered.

Then go one step further: contact your U.S. representative + senators and tell them you oppose transferring national park land for private development and want Yosemite kept protected for the public.

You can find your representatives through USA.gov or call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.

Defending the parks isn’t one action. It’s staying informed, respecting closures, supporting communities in crisis, donating when you can, contacting decision-makers and sharing the storie

‼️ Yosemite is NOT for sale‼️

The administration is considering a deal that would transfer a piece of Yosemite National Park to a private developer to create an access road for a proposed commercial development outside the park.

But there is no such thing as “just a piece” of Yosemite.

This is habitat. It’s home to black bears, mule deer, mountain lions, great gray owls and hundreds of other species. It’s part of an interconnected landscape that has been shaped over thousands of years and protected for generations.

And long before Yosemite became a national park, Indigenous peoples called this place home and cared for this landscape. That history doesn’t begin with a park boundary, and its value can’t be measured in acres available for development.

The national parks are public lands. They belong to all of us, and they should not be carved up for private interests.

What happens in Yosemite matters far beyond Yosemite. Allowing protected park land to be handed over for private development sets a dangerous precedent for public lands we’ve spent generations fighting to protect.

This is a moment to stand together. To pay attention. To speak up. And to remind the leaders of this country that these places belong to the public.
