A garden hidden within a garden - the night-blooming flowers take center stage after the sun has set.
They begin to reveal their wonder when the sun dips below the horizon. Petals quietly emerge from the darkness, and fragrance begins to travel farther than the eye can see.
Night-blooming, or nocturnal, flowers revolve around a different rhythm. Moths, bats, and other night-flying pollinators are their visitors, drawn through the darkness by flowers pale enough to catch the faintest light of the moon and fragrant enough to announce their presence from a distance.
Moonflower. Queen of the Night. Night-blooming Jasmine. Nocturnum Orchid.
These are just a few of the flowers that reveal another world beneath the cloak of darkness.
Each opens on its own terms.
Each releases its perfume according to the hour.
And each reminds us that there is beauty in both the light and the dark.
As the moon moves through Earth’s shadow this week, look toward the flowers that have always belonged to the night.
Some things reveal themselves only when the light recedes.
PS - if you live in the CST timezone and this post makes it to you before the evening of August 27th, you just might be in luck. Look up to the heavens at 11:11p.m. to see the partial lunar eclipse. 💫🌑
