Chairs like these were predominantly created in the 19th century, often durning the Victorian era.
Designed for supervised courting (chaperone seats) or intimate conversations, became popular in France and Europe during the late 1800’s to facilitate social etiquette.

This particular chair came out of a New York City penthouse. It then traveled to Florida where our clients acquired it and 4 other chairs. JS Custom Sewing and Upholstery was hired to reupholster the pieces.
Rachelle set to work on this piece and did a magnificent job. She took it down to the bones where we found a few surprises. It had been repaired and we hired Holston Creek Welding (in St. Mary’s) to add some metal to places that needed more stability.
It was previously cover in green Mohair and that is what the clients chose to go back with. It is B-E-A-U-tiful and very plush.

We recovered the seats on these chairs. I believe she said the they belonged to her parents once upon a time. Then someone else used and cared for them. Now back with this lovely lady.
She did missionary work across 40 different countries. The pictures on her wall she bought through the years. They are very interesting.
