Sunset over the Grand Tetons after rain and rainbows in Yellowstone yesterday. Inside Yellowstone National Park: bison around every bend, sunshine, geysers, snow, rain, rain, rain, and such an incredibly enormous lake! Driving through the rain in May means the park is practically empty, save for the wonderful wildlife!

Riding into the weekend like…the US has had presidents who embraced and were inspired by our country’s wild lands, and fought to protect, rather than destroy it. Our 21st president, Chester A. Arthur, who assumed the role upon the assassination of 20th president, James A. Garfield in 1881, traveled to Wyoming to fish in Jackson Lake and the Snake River. Jackson Hole was already a vacation destination in the 1800s. Shown here are two of President Arthur’s Native American guides before Teewinot Mountain in 1883.

Wyoming out the window… We raced to get out of Colorado ahead of the biggest snowstorm of the ‘25-‘26 season (that arrived in May, yes!) Heading to Montana from the southern Rockies means driving north, pretty much into that storm. We headed west before turning north, driving through heavy rain and bursts of bright sunlight. It was beautiful. We were almost to the Wyoming border when the snow caught us. As we drove into Wyoming on Tuesday, the storm became more intense. Interstate 80 to Rock Springs was 35 mph. The trip was endless. On Highway 191 North it became downright scary, with the ascent in altitude the snow became denser. So much open land - so little to light the way - and snow is just coming at you. We made it, we got some sleep, and were rewarded with a beautiful day in the west yesterday. Wyoming is so easy on the eyes. Still on the way to Kalispell, Montana.
