Let's talk about the war in Ukraine and try to put it into perspective. The total national budget of the United States is an astounding 6.27 trillion dollars, with a "T." To put this in context, a trillion has 12 zeros, a billion only has 9 zeros, and it takes 1000 billion to make one trillion. Our total aid to Ukraine to date has been 68 billion dollars, which represents less than 1% of the national budget.
The aid to Ukraine is being spent on various programs, including economic stabilization, humanitarian aid for the two million refugees created by the ongoing war, the people left in the country, and providing weapons and training to the Ukrainian military. The Russian aggression aimed at destroying Ukraine as an independent state is illegal, and the Russian refugees are calling for Putin to be charged with war crimes.
It is important to understand that it is in the best interest of the United States and its NATO allies to support Ukraine. Failure to do so could lead to instability in the region, resulting in more death and destruction, and creating a risk to our national security. Putin has made it clear that he has no intention of stopping at Ukraine and allowing this illegal invasion to continue puts other countries at risk as well.
The United States has a history of fighting for the rights of oppressed people around the world. Supporting Ukraine is not only the right thing to do, but it is also in line with our values and interests. It is crucial to continue supporting Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Hopefully, you can see the importance of providing aid to Ukraine as a necessary investment in our national security and global stability. While the amount may seem significant, it is a small fraction of the national budget, and it is being used to help innocent people who are suffering due to Russian aggression. By supporting Ukraine, we are promoting stability and democracy in the region and sending a message to authoritarian regimes that the United States stands for freedom and democracy.
Support Ukraine.
